A new round of industrial revolution, focusing on technological revolution and industrial transformation, is rapidly unfolding globally. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), as a product of the deep integration of information communication technology, intelligent science and technology, and industry, is a key support for the deep integration of the real economy and the digital economy, as well as for the new round of industrial revolution. Therefore, countries are formulating relevant strategic plans to promote the development of IIoT. For example, the United States emphasizes cutting-edge layouts, reaching a new height in the importance of IoT. The European Union focuses on promoting IoT to develop in a smart, universal, trustworthy, and open direction. Our country is implementing the “Industrial Internet Innovation Development Action Plan (2021-2023)” to achieve deep integration of the real economy and the digital economy.
In the 11-12 issue of the New Economic Guide 2023, a signed article titled “Building High-Quality Industrial IoT Systems” by Li Bohu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is published. The article points out that the development of IIoT must adapt to the new round of industrial revolution. Currently, there are two categories of application scenarios for IIoT: one is the application throughout the product’s entire lifecycle, and the other is the application in industrial systems. Developing a smart IIoT requires a focus on the real economy, adhering to principles such as government guidance, market leadership, innovation-driven, problem-oriented, and systematic planning.
To accelerate the construction of smart IIoT, it is recommended to implement in steps from the following six aspects:
First, accelerate the construction of a technological innovation system, especially the basic research and technological innovation system centered on enterprises, combining government, industry, academia, research, finance, and application.
Second, accelerate the cultivation of various talents, especially the cultivation of talents in the IIoT field that integrate production and education and are versatile.
Third, accelerate the construction of national and local infrastructure, particularly focusing on timely, safe, and service-oriented ubiquitous networks, such as 5G and 6G, and the construction of integrated terrestrial and space interconnection networks and computing power networks.
Fourth, accelerate the improvement and implementation of national and local policies, especially accelerating the promotion of legislation for the data industry, improving and implementing mechanisms for data open sharing and industrial data security policies, enhancing intellectual property protection, and improving regulatory policies.
Fifth, accelerate innovation and overcome shortcomings. It is particularly important to focus on developing heterogeneous industrial IoT integration platforms and their integration with industrial software tools, to cultivate and develop new generation industrial APP technologies and products with digital twins as important carriers, and to focus on research and development supporting the synchronized development of industrial IoT systems across fields, industries, and regions for Industry 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0, while emphasizing future technology and form development.
Sixth, promote openness and cooperation among countries, particularly strengthening open cooperation between industrial chains.
