Types of Robots
Industrial robots are multi-joint mechanical arms or multi-degree-of-freedom machines designed for the industrial field. They can automatically perform tasks and rely on their own power and control capabilities to achieve various functions. They can accept human commands or operate according to pre-programmed instructions.
Special robots refer to various advanced robots used outside the industrial sector to serve humans, including service robots, underwater robots, entertainment robots, military robots, agricultural robots, and robotic machines.
The Three Laws of Robotics
Science fiction writer Isaac Asimov established the “Three Laws of Robotics” in his novels. The three laws (law) that Asimov proposed for robots dictate that all robots must follow:
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm;
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law;
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.
