Bosch Releases SX600/SX601 Radar SoC: AI Empowering ADAS, Enhancing Autonomous Driving Safety

Bosch has launched the SX600 and SX601 radar system-on-chip (SoC) designed for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), enhancing vehicle safety and autonomous driving capabilities with high computing power, AI capabilities, and improved target recognition technology in the rapidly growing automotive semiconductor market.

The newly released SoC series by Bosch is specifically designed to enhance in-vehicle ADAS by integrating core components of radar systems, achieving reliable target recognition and promoting the transition of vehicles towards automated mobility.

Key Highlights

  • Top-tier Computing Power: The new SoC offers market-leading performance in advanced target recognition;

  • 25 Years of Technological Accumulation: Bosch has extensive experience in radar sensor semiconductor manufacturing;

  • SAE L2+ Support: Supports features such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, and lane change assistance;

  • Market Growth Prospects: The radar semiconductor market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 12%, significantly outpacing the overall automotive semiconductor industry;

  • AI Integration: Utilizes neural network-based AI technology to accurately distinguish targets such as pedestrians.

Safety Enhancement Technical Features

The SX600 and SX601 SoCs integrate a fully digital phase-locked loop (PLL) for precise and flexible signal adjustment, ensuring high resolution and long-range detection of small or distant targets. The radar receiver’s high dynamic range significantly reduces false detection rates and enhances sensitivity.

Bosch manufactures the SoCs using 22 nm RF CMOS technology, achieving full integration at a low cost, with detection ranges improved by approximately 30% compared to traditional sensors. The multi-core subsystem provides ample memory and computing power, supporting future expansions and direct integration of customer functions.

AI and Signal Processing Capabilities

The SoC is equipped with a millimeter-wave sensor front end (mmWave) and a powerful digital signal processor, supporting both traditional and AI data processing. High computing power supports complex algorithms and neural networks, enabling reliable recognition of road users such as pedestrians in ADAS systems. Bosch provides a supporting engineering environment to simplify the deployment of machine learning applications, lowering the technical barriers for automotive companies.

Connectivity and Security

Both SoCs operate in the 77 GHz frequency band, integrating CAN XL and Ethernet interfaces for flexible adaptation to vehicle systems. Hardware-level security accelerators and data encryption technologies protect against unauthorized access.

The SX600 focuses on cost optimization, while the SX601 offers larger memory and maximum computing power, with pin compatibility for easy upgrades. Each chip is equipped with 4 transmit and 4 receive channels, allowing two chips to be cascaded to meet high-demand scenarios. Samples of the SX601 are globally available to support development testing.
