Canvas Software Suite Expands Bluetooth Solutions

The Lyra 24 series Bluetooth modules are based on Silicon Labs’ BG24 Bluetooth SoC, one of the latest Bluetooth products on the market designed for cutting-edge applications. The module features a powerful onboard ARM Cortex-M33 MCU, supports multiple peripheral interfaces, and is rated for industrial temperature specifications from -40°C to +105°C; it also supports advanced networking features such as AoA/AoD and low-power Bluetooth Mesh.

Now, the Lyra 24 series has received significant functional upgrades through support for the Canvas Software Suite. The Canvas Software Suite facilitates rapid embedded development for MCU-based wireless products, including cross-chip middleware, easy-to-use wireless APIs, scripting on the module, and intuitive desktop /mobile tools, all of which greatly simplify embedded development.

The Canvas Software Suite provides developers with a simpler, more powerful platform based on Micropython for developing applications based on MCU modules and deploying these applications to all devices supported by Canvas. It offers a straightforward method to develop once in a familiar Python environment and deploy to any module that supports Canvas.

This means the Bluetooth module introduces additional advantages, allowing you to start your product development with embedded Python scripts, replacing countless lines of C code. These tools provide customizable example applications that help you build applications in days instead of months. Additionally, you will have desktop and mobile tools that allow you to develop directly on the evaluation kit and push updates via low-power Bluetooth with Python scripts.

Example Application – Temperature and Humidity Sensing

The first example application available for the Lyra 24P development kit is a temperature and humidity sensing demonstration. Combined with the MikroE Temp&Hum 4 click module, this Canvas example makes it easy to prototype temperature and humidity sensing applications.

For developers, simply install the Canvas firmware onto the Lyra 24P development kit, load the example application, and start collecting data from the sensors on the MikroE Temp&Hum 4 click module via low-power Bluetooth wireless transmission. The Canvas example application handles communication and data formatting with the sensor directly. It captures temperature and humidity data on the Lyra 24P DVK through the I2C interface, with all processing and communication occurring on the Lyra 24P module itself.

As with all samples, this is just the beginning. The Canvas Software Suite is designed to bring these example applications into the product portfolio, cross-compatible with the Python scripting language, and cross-compatible with embedded firmware and middleware, facilitating application portability across multiple hardware products.

Elevating Bluetooth Embedded Development to New Heights

With familiar Python language, familiar editors (such as VS Code), desktop and mobile applications, along with wireless updates and device configuration, the Canvas Software Suite makes it easier for developers to evaluate Bluetooth modules than ever before. It’s ready to use right out of the box, allowing you to focus on your application and leverage wireless connectivity to enhance core business value.

The Lyra 24 series modules are among the first products from Ezurio using Silicon Labs’ BG24 Bluetooth SoC, which has been natively integrated into Canvas, and will continue to expand support for more products in the future, providing relevant example applications and tools to enable developers to bring products to market faster and more flexibly than ever.
