Aurora is a Linux distribution based on Fedora Silverblue, utilizing the KDE Plasma desktop, aimed at creating a universal desktop Linux experience for users.
To be honest, many may know about Fedora, but some might not be familiar with Fedora Silverblue, and even fewer might know about Aurora.
As Aurora is a new Linux distribution, it is normal not to know about it. With so many Linux distributions available, I wouldn’t have known about this one if I hadn’t stumbled upon it.
To understand Aurora, we must discuss Fedora Silverblue. Fedora Silverblue is an atomic desktop operating system officially released by Fedora, featuring an immutable file system and containerization technology, providing a stable and reliable development environment.
The core features of Fedora Silverblue include an atomic update mechanism, a Flatpak application ecosystem, and Toolbx development tools.
Moreover, Fedora Silverblue has an update cycle of approximately 13 months for each version, with updates taking effect upon the next reboot, ensuring system consistency, and allowing users to continue working even during application updates!
The entire system of Fedora Silverblue is updated in one go; if any issues arise, the update will not be applied, meaning the computer can always function normally.
In the Fedora Silverblue system, previous versions are always retained as a precaution, making it easy to revert to earlier versions!
Graphical applications in Fedora Silverblue are installed via Flatpak, separated from the base system, allowing for fine-grained control over their permissions.
Toolbx in Fedora Silverblue allows all development tools to be neatly organized by project, keeping multiple versions of tools independent and unaffected by changes in the base system.
Having gained a preliminary understanding of Fedora Silverblue, it is clear that Aurora, being based on it, inherits all of Fedora Silverblue’s features.
Aurora supports Flathub and brew by default for application installation. More importantly, it features automatic maintenance, so you don’t need to manually update; system updates are handled in the background.
Aurora includes support for all graphics cards and CPUs, including GPUs from Nvidia, and provides extensive support for hardware devices such as printers and game controllers.
The system offers two methods to run containerized applications: Podman or Docker, both of which can be easily managed and supported.

In my personal opinion, Aurora customizes more capabilities based on Fedora Silverblue, providing users with greater convenience and introducing more features, offering an out-of-the-box experience for those seeking these conveniences.
