Artificial Intelligence and Innovation (C++) - Fall Semester Overview

01 Course Introduction

Starting from the 2024 cohort, the course “Artificial Intelligence and Innovation (C++)” has undergone a series of reforms, placing greater emphasis on the ability to program with AI integration, rather than traditional programming.

This course now incorporates a wealth of online learning resources related to AI usage, and there are clear requirements for using AI to assist in completing tasks, such as case replication assignments (for example, students are required to generate an event report using AI and include complete screenshots of their conversations with AI in the submitted content, along with a summary of their experiences and suggestions for optimization).

The final assessment for the 2024 cohort has replaced the written exam with an entirely practical exam. The exam includes a large number of multiple-choice questions and a few programming questions, allowing the use of AI tools like DeepSeek and Kimi during the exam (however, the exam system has set paste restrictions, meaning students can only copy questions to seek help from AI, and cannot directly paste answers; thus, programming questions must be typed out manually).

The grading structure for this course is quite complex, including attendance, online course viewing progress, regular assignments, major projects, and final exams. Among these, the most time-consuming and labor-intensive is the major project, which must be completed in groups as a complete project (for example, developing a small game, designing a small plugin, etc.), and groups will present and defend their projects at the end of the semester. Tips: Since this course places a strong emphasis on the flexible application of AI, if the project can fully demonstrate your understanding of AI, it may impress the instructors!

02 Learning Experience

Pay attention to prompt engineering! This course focuses on assessing the ability to program with AI integration, and high-quality outputs often stem from high-quality questions. To ensure that AI’s responses are of high quality, it is essential to use high-quality prompts and master techniques such as role prompts, contextual prompts, and structured expressions. These techniques will be mentioned in the course, but the open-source community suggests that everyone should learn more on various websites and practice extensively.

Master basic coding knowledge!Although this course emphasizes the ability to use AI to assist in programming, it is absolutely insufficient to only know how to use prompts without understanding code. Only by being able to read and understand code can one provide critical suggestions during debugging and have clearer thoughts when using AI to generate code, making the writing process smoother. A solid programming foundation is our confidence in effectively utilizing AI!

03 Learning Resources

Due to the lack of past exam papers and related practice materials, the open-source community has found a 68-page prompt guide published by Google to help everyone learn more systematically about prompt design and optimization strategies.
