Ambarella may not be as familiar as Intel, AMD, or Qualcomm, but there are certainly image processors utilizing it in some of your devices, such as some action cameras, GoPro, DJI, Xiaomi Yi, etc. The image processors of these specialized imaging devices are all using Ambarella.
Ambarella recently announced the launch of the latest CVflow series chip CV5, an AI vision processor that supports 8K video recording or 4 independent image inputs for 4K video streaming.
The new SoC chip CV5 will drive the further development of smart car camera systems, consumer drones, action cameras, and 360° panoramic cameras, as well as robotic vision systems.
Ambarella’s semiconductor CVflow AI engine, combined with a dual-core ArmA76 processor, provides outstanding performance for various mainstream AI algorithms. CV5 features a high-performance image signal processor (ISP) that optimizes video encoding to enhance human visual perception while optimizing for machine vision algorithms to improve accuracy. The CV5 uses a 5-nanometer advanced process, with a power consumption of less than 2 watts required for capturing 8Kp30 video.
Ambarella states that for small action cameras, the CV5 can support up to 8K 30fps or 4K 240fps recording, and supports features such as HDR, face tracking, time-lapse video, and high ISO photography; for 360-degree panoramic cameras, the CV5 can support dual 8K sensors, while also supporting HDR, smart stabilization, and image stitching;
In consumer robotics and drone applications, the CV5’s CVflow AI engine can accelerate SLAM calculations, achieve path planning, obstacle detection, obstacle avoidance, and autonomous positioning and navigation. Specifically for drone aerial photography, the CV5 can record video at up to 8K 30fps while executing flight control and navigation functions.
Key features of the CV5 chip:
· CVflow architecture supporting DNN
· Dual-core 1.6GHz ArmCortex-A76 with NEONDSP extension and FPU
