Motherboard and SSD Compatibility:
Different motherboard models have different types of SSD slots, leading to varying compatibility with SSDs.For SSD compatibility, you can refer directly to the detailed chart compiled by the author.

Some Not Supported = A small number of motherboard models do not support SSDs, while most do.For example: The MSI B660B BOMBER’s NVME SSD slot does not support PCIe GEN 4 (NVME 4.0), only supporting PCIe GEN 3 (NVME 3.0).Other B660 chipset motherboards support PCIe GEN 4, such as MSI B660M-G and B660M MORTAR, which both support PCIe GEN 4 (NVME 4.0).Requires CPU Support = The data transfer for SSD slots only supports PCIe GEN 4 speeds when using the CPU’s PCIe GEN 4 lanes. If the CPU does not support PCIe GEN 4 (NVME 4.0), it will only transfer at PCIe GEN 3 (NVME 3.0) speeds.
Same Chipset, Motherboard SSD Slot Type and Quantity:The author categorized this part into two main types: NVME and SATA.

《1》M.2 SATA Slot: Currently, mainstream products no longer feature this interface. Performance is the same as SATA 3.0. If it’s not essential, do not buy SSDs with this interface!《2》M.2 NVME 1.4 Slot:Motherboards generally come with 1-7 slots, with varying numbers based on model; you can check the motherboard’s official website. They are divided into PCIe Gen 3 (NVME 3.0), PCIe Gen 4 (NVME 4.0), and PCIe Gen 5 (which currently has no supported SSDs available). The mainstream SSDs are PCIe Gen 3 (also known as NVME 3.0) and PCIe Gen 4 (also known as NVME 4.0) interfaces.Only SSDs with M.2 interfaces can be installed. If the slot count is insufficient, a PCI to NVME conversion card can be used to increase the number of SSDs.

The M.2 NVME slot of H610 generally has 1-2 slots (the second one may have reduced speed), with most models having 1.This is generally used for DIY builds/brand machines/all-in-one machines. It is only compatible with DDR4 memory.CPUs can perfectly support I3 12100/12100F, 13100/13100F, I5 12400/12400F/12490F. Higher model CPUs can be compatible but may affect performance.

The M.2 NVME slot of A620 generally has 1-2 slots. This is generally used for DIY builds/brand machines/all-in-one machines. It is only compatible with DDR5 memory.CPUs can perfectly support R5 7600/7600X and higher model CPUs can be compatible but may affect performance.

The M.2 NVME slot of B660 generally has 1-3 slots, with most MATX models having 2 M.2 NVME slots. The M.2 NVME slot of B760 generally has 2-3 slots, with most MATX models having 2 M.2 NVME slots. This is generally used for DIY builds/brand machines/all-in-one machines.CPUs support INTEL’s 12th and 13th generation series CPUs.The budget models can install I3 12100/F, 13100/F, I5 12400/F/12490F, 13400/F/13490F.Other models can install I5 13400/F, 12600K/KF, 13600K/KF, I7 13700/F/13790F, I9 13900/F. Other 12th generation CPUs are no longer suitable for purchase~ You can refer to this post for more information.
A must-read for new computer users when buying hardware! A complete price list and purchasing advice for new CPUs – May 12, 2023.The motherboard uses the B660/B760M MORTAR MAX version, which can overclock non-K series CPUs..

The M.2 NVME slot of B550 generally has 1-3 slots, with most MATX models having 1-2 slots. E-ATX models have 3 slots. This is generally used for DIY builds/brand machines/all-in-one machines. It is only compatible with DDR4 memory.Compatible with AMD Ryzen 5000 and 4000 series CPUs, among which R7 5800X/3D, R9 5900X, 5950X are no longer suitable for purchase, as they have very low cost performance. The M.2 NVME slot of B650 generally has 2-4 slots, with most MATX models having 2 slots. E-ATX models have 3-4 slots. This is generally used for DIY builds/brand machines/all-in-one machines. It is only compatible with DDR5 memory.Compatible with all series of AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs. Among which R7 7800X3D, R9 7900X3D, R9 7950X3D currently have high premiums, and it is not recommended to purchase the X3D series for non-enthusiasts.

The M.2 NVME slot of Z690 generally has 2-6 slots, with most models having 4 slots. Currently in the phase of clearing stock. The M.2 NVME slot of Z790 generally has 3-5 slots, with most models having 3-4 slots. New product, replacing Z690.This is generally used for DIY builds/brand machines.Compatible with all series of INTEL 12th and 13th generation CPUs, and can overclock K/KF/KS series CPUs.

The M.2 NVME slot of X670 generally has 3-7 slots, with most models having 3-4 slots. This is generally used for DIY builds/brand machines. Only supports DDR5 memory.Compatible with all series of AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs.

《3》SATA Slot: All motherboards are compatible, with 2-8 SATA interfaces, most motherboards come with 4-6 SATA interfaces.Supports installing SATA interface SSDs (generally 2.5 inches) and mechanical hard drives (notebooks generally are 2.5 inches and desktop computers generally are 3.5 inches).Note:When installing SATA hard drives, you need to consider both the hard drive slots in the case and the L-shaped power connector of the power supply.Generally, there are 2-3 slots for 3.5-inch mechanical hard drives in the case, most have 2.Small-sized MATX or ITX cases generally have 1 slot for mechanical hard drives. If you need more mechanical hard drive slots, you need to choose special models.

[Example Explanation]Chipset: H610 and Z690. Difference in the number of native SATA interfaces on motherboards.
ASUS H610T D4:SATA interface is 2, generally used for brand machines or all-in-one machines.

ASUS H610M-K:SATA interface is 4, generally used for DIY builds.CPUs can perfectly support I3 12100/12100F, 13100/13100F, I5 12400/12400F/12490F.
