Some might say, what’s the difference with a laptop? In such a small space, how can so many things fit? Wouldn’t it affect performance?

This question arises. I think the biggest advantage of a mini PC is that it is often moved around. It’s fine for home use, and of course, it can also be used in companies that frequently change locations. At least it’s not a bulky PC, it’s very convenient to carry!

Compared to laptops, its advantages are too weak. First, many mini PCs need to be connected to power to work and do not have a battery module. Second, mini PCs are still PCs, requiring a keyboard, mouse, and projector (the three basic components of a computer) to function properly.

So even if you want the portability of a mini PC, once you arrive at a place, you need to have power, a mouse, a keyboard, and a display screen available to showcase content to clients and better collaborate with users!

Laptops are different; they can be opened and used directly as long as you charge them before going out. At least one hour of battery life is manageable for ordinary computers; some can last five to six hours. You can directly showcase to users when you go out, and laptops are more convenient to carry!

So why choose a mini PC? Laptops have evolved significantly, with lightweight models featuring 13.3-inch screens and even 17-inch laptops that provide good visual display, all with built-in keyboards, displays, and touchpads (mouse); some laptops now support touch screen operations. There are also 2-in-1 laptops that combine tablet and laptop features, making them even more portable!

If you cannot satisfy the small screen experience that laptops provide, no worries, laptops can project screens, and you can even use a large TV to display content. The key is that wireless projection is also achievable. Of course, smartphones can do this too; some smartphones can turn into a mini PC after projection, and the phone can even become a touchpad. Isn’t that surprising?

So with all these features, you’ll find that our daily life and work do not require mini PCs as much; sometimes they are even regrettably underused. Because compared to portability, laptops and 2-in-1 laptops offer better portability, and mini PCs still require external devices.

Compared to medium and large PCs, mini PCs have limited heat dissipation and performance release, so they can only handle general tasks. If it involves design, editing, programming, 3D rendering, modeling, etc., mini PCs are simply insufficient.

Nowadays, some companies are using cloud computers to create mini PCs, such as Alibaba’s Shadowless. It’s the size of a business card, but it’s actually a terminal; the real computer is in the cloud. This might be an innovation for future enterprises, allowing offices to become clean and tidy, instead of cluttered with large square PCs that can trip or bump into.
