3D Printing Insights | Evaluation of Domestic 3D Printing Materials in the Era of Tariffs

With the adjustment of tariff policies and the revival of American manufacturing, this is an excellent time to explore domestic 3D printing materials in the United States. Overseas bloggers tested materials from 10 leading American manufacturers, showcasing their quality, diversity, and reliability against the backdrop of an unstable overseas supply chain. Although this article is not an exhaustive evaluation, it clearly presents the outstanding capabilities of American companies in creating materials for both hobbyists and professional users.

Unboxing Experience

All materials are packaged in a highly similar manner: almost all use a “material box + shipping carton” double-layer packaging. Some brands, such as 3DxTech and Coex 3D, directly affix shipping labels to the material boxes, while American Filament and Polar Filament omit the inner box. Atomic and Polar include small gifts with their materials, and GreenGate 3D even offers samples in other colors of the same type.

Printing Performance

This evaluation focuses on practical application scenarios, avoiding brittle PLA materials and opting for more practical PETG and PCTG. Except for GreenGate 3D’s recycled PETG and ProtoPasta’s red PETG, which require slight adjustments to the printing temperature, the other materials performed excellently under preset parameters.

Notably, the PCTG material from 3D Fuel is impressive in color consistency and printing stability, with the uniformity of the entire roll of material setting an industry benchmark.
