Introduction
On January 4, 2025, a milestone moment, the National Standardization Administration officially issued the “Energy Efficiency Limit Values and Energy Efficiency Grades for Microcomputers” (GB 28380-2025), a mandatory national standard. This standard, as an iterative upgrade of GB 28380-2012, injects strong momentum into the continuous optimization of energy efficiency for computer products with its comprehensive enhancement of technical indicators and testing requirements, effectively promoting the computer industry’s transition to a green and low-carbon model.
Looking back at the development history of the computer industry, the GB 28380-2012 standard served as the cornerstone for early mandatory energy efficiency certification for microcomputers, establishing a complete system of energy efficiency limit values covering mainstream products such as home desktop computers, all-in-one desktops, and laptops, supported by rigorous testing methods and a scientific evaluation system, leading the industry to successfully complete the first round of energy efficiency upgrades.
However, with the rapid advancement of chip manufacturing technology and profound changes in market demand, the new standard has emerged. While retaining the original reasonable framework, it has made stricter revisions to the energy efficiency indicators and simultaneously optimized the experimental verification plan, thereby constructing a more rigorous and scientific evaluation system.
According to the plan, this standard will be officially implemented on February 1, 2026. During this period, relevant companies in the industry need to actively respond, optimize product design layouts, and ensure that products meet the new national standard requirements, collectively welcoming a new chapter in the green and low-carbon development of the computer industry.
