Nintendo recently collaborated with SanDisk to launch Mario and Link themed microSDXC storage cards. Nintendo stated that some games require a microSD card to achieve a complete experience, which has drawn attention.
In fact, we have already seen a game that requires players to insert a microSD card into the Switch, which is “NBA 2K18”. The requirement for a microSD card is clearly stated on the top of the Switch version’s cover.
A Nintendo representative confirmed to IGN that all games requiring a microSD card will have the requirement directly printed on the packaging, just like NBA 2K18. Additionally, digital versions of games will specify the required storage space in their information. If a player purchases a physical version of a game that requires a microSD card, they can play part of the game without the microSD card, which may include some game modes and levels.
With the requirement for storage cards starting with “NBA 2K18”, it is likely that future Switch games will also require a microSD card to provide a complete experience.
