Using RX 6750XT with Raspberry Pi 5 for 4K Gaming

You never know what fun things can be done with a Raspberry Pi!

YouTube blogger Jeff Geerling often connects independent graphics cards to the Raspberry Pi. This time, he found a new partner for the Raspberry Pi 5, the AMD RX 6750 XT, because AMD’s open-source graphics drivers have always been well-made and have improved rapidly.

In the past, this combination could only run the original 2006 version of “Doom”. Now, it can run “Doom Eternal”, achieving frame rates of about 20-35 FPS at 720p/4K, and even 12 FPS with ray tracing enabled.

The reason there is not much difference between 720p and 4K is mainly due to the weakness of the Raspberry Pi’s Broadcom BCM2712 processor, which has a TDP of only 12W and has become a serious bottleneck.

At the same time, network, memory (8GB), PCIe 2.0 x1, etc. also severely limit performance, and in order to install the independent graphics card, an adapter had to be used.

Even so, “Crysis Remastered” can be played, achieving 20-30 FPS at low graphics settings in 4K.

“Red Dead Redemption 2” was also tried, but unfortunately, it couldn’t run due to the launcher issue.
