Recently, I purchased a second-hand Mac mini, 2020 M1 version, from Xianyu. I chose the lowest configuration with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, costing around CN¥3,600 at the time. I have been using it for about a month now, and I have set up functions like bypass routing, remote Time Machine backup, SMB file sharing, remote desktop connection, and internal penetration, which can be said to be worth the money.
Let’s talk about the configuration of the 2020 M1 Mac mini.
The Mac mini is Apple’s small host, similar to the Intel® NUC mini PC. It does not come with a keyboard, mouse, or display, making it more affordable compared to the iMac.
This generation of Mac mini is the first to feature Apple Silicon, based on ARM architecture, which offers better energy efficiency and performance. Its Geekbench 4 score is 7422, higher than the Intel chip-based highest configuration Mac mini’s score of 5488. However, due to the limitations of the M1 chip, it only has two Thunderbolt 3 ports instead of four, and it supports connecting a maximum of two displays. However, compared to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with M1 chips, it has more ports — an additional HDMI 2.0, gigabit Ethernet (upgradeable to 10Gb Ethernet), and two USB-A ports.
I personally believe that the positioning of the Mac mini is greater than or equal to the MacBook Air and less than or equal to the iMac and MacBook Pro series. Therefore, in the future, Apple may also launch Mac mini with M1 Pro/M1 Max chips.
