Buster was actually released slightly earlier than the official Debian release date. This is because one of the important new features of the Raspberry Pi 4 is the default use of the open-source OpenGL video driver, which was developed using the latest version of Debian. Porting everything needed back to Raspbian Stretch required a lot of work, so it was decided to launch Raspbian Buster—the only question was whether Buster would be ready before the Raspberry Pi 4 hardware was launched!
It turned out, it wasn’t ready. The official release date for Buster is July 7, so we were a few weeks early. That said, Buster had been in a
