What is the IP Protection Level?
The IP rating (Ingress Protection) is an internationally recognized protection standard, consisting of two digits:

The first digit (0-6)
Indicates the level of protection against solid foreign objects (0-6), for example—IP2X can prevent finger contact, IP5X can prevent dust.

The second digit (0-8)
Indicates the level of protection against water (0-8), for example—IPX4 protects against splashing water, IPX6 protects against powerful water jets.

Applicable Scenarios for Different IP Ratings
IP20
Applicable Scenario: Dry indoor environment.
Protection Capability: Protects against ≥12.5mm solid foreign objects, no water protection.
IP30/IP40
Applicable Scenario: General industrial indoor.
Protection Capability: Protects against ≥2.5mm solid foreign objects, IP40 can protect against splashing water.
IP54
Applicable Scenario: Dusty or humid environment.
Protection Capability: Dustproof and protects against water splashes from all directions.
IP65
Applicable Scenario: Harsh industrial environment.
Protection Capability: Completely dustproof and withstands high-pressure water jets.
Note: PLC modules themselves usually have no protection (IP00) and must rely on the cabinet for protection!

How to Choose the Appropriate Protection Level

Consider the Environment
For dry indoor environments, choose IP20-IP40; for outdoor, dusty, or humid environments, choose IP54 and above.

Consider the Requirements
Food factories require moisture protection, choose IP54; chemical plants need corrosion resistance and waterproofing, choose IP65.
