Recently, NVIDIA’s market value increased by 5.2%, closing at $3.019 trillion, surpassing Apple to become the second largest company by market value in the US stock market, second only to Microsoft. In today’s technology landscape, GPUs have become one of the most important infrastructures driving the development of artificial intelligence, deep learning, and high-performance computing. As a leader in the GPU field, NVIDIA has reaped the first wave of benefits from this era, and they certainly have the hard power to back it up.
Take their GPU platforms as an example, such as DGX, EGX, IGX, HGX, and MGX. Those who are new to this field may not understand the differences among them, so today we will summarize and compare them in this article.
DGX: A Platform Designed for Enterprise AI
DGX: Deep Learning GPU Training System
DGX is an integrated solution provided by NVIDIA for enterprise-level AI development. It integrates NVIDIA’s software, infrastructure, and expertise, aimed at quickly deploying and efficiently running AI applications. The DGX system is suitable for large enterprises and can be deployed in the cloud or on-premises, offering a powerful AI computing environment. The biggest feature of DGX is that it does not support customization; it is a highly integrated modular version launched by NVIDIA to increase profits.

EGX: A Platform for Accelerating Edge Computing
EGX: Edge Computing GPU Acceleration Platform
EGX is NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platform that extends accelerated AI computing from data centers to the edge. It provides an easy-to-deploy cloud-native software stack and management services, as well as hardware optimized for edge computing. EGX enables enterprises to perform low-latency AI computations in real-time on edge devices, suitable for scenarios like 5G base stations, warehouses, retail stores, and factories.
The EGX hardware suite includes several excellent products, from NVIDIA-certified systems that can perform real-time speech recognition, precise business forecasting, immersive graphics computing experiences, and other modern workloads in data centers, to the energy-efficient and compact NVIDIA Jetson series that support edge image recognition and sensor fusion. The EGX aggregator combines the performance of NVIDIA Ampere GPUs with NVIDIA Mellanox SmartNIC and DPU technology to create faster, more efficient, and more secure data centers.

IGX: Industrial-Grade Edge AI Platform
IGX: Industrial-Grade Edge AI Platform
IGX is NVIDIA’s industrial-grade edge AI platform designed for industrial and healthcare environments. It combines enterprise-grade hardware, software, and support to provide powerful AI computing, high-bandwidth sensor processing, enterprise security, and functional safety. The IGX platform is suitable for mission-critical applications and plays an important role in industrial and healthcare fields.
NVIDIA IGX™ is an industrial-grade edge AI platform that integrates enterprise-grade hardware, software, and support services. It is designed for industrial and healthcare environments, offering not only powerful AI computing performance and high-bandwidth sensor processing capabilities but also reliability in enterprise security and functional safety. The platform is also equipped with NVIDIA AI Enterprise and offers up to 10 years of support services.

HGX: A Flexible and Customizable AI Hardware Platform
HGX: Hyper-scale GPU Accelerator
HGX represents flexibility and customization in NVIDIA’s AI hardware solutions. It provides OEM manufacturers with a highly customizable hardware platform to meet specific customer needs for adjustment and optimization. The HGX platform focuses on flexibility, offering more choices for different industries and application scenarios.
HGX is a modular AI supercomputing platform that provides high performance comparable to the DGX system. The HGX platform offers OEMs a highly customizable hardware platform that can be adjusted and optimized based on specific customer requirements. The HGX platform emphasizes flexibility and customization, allowing customers to freely choose and adjust CPU, RAM, storage, and networking configurations.

MGX: A Modular and Flexible Computing Platform
MGX: Modular GPU Acceleration Platform
MGX is NVIDIA’s modular and flexible architecture computing platform, suitable for various computing needs and the future development of data centers. The MGX platform is designed to introduce accelerated computing into any data center through modular server design.
With MGX, OEM and ODM partners can create tailored solutions for different use cases while saving development resources and shortening time-to-market. This modular reference architecture supports various GPU, CPU, and DPU configurations (including NVIDIA Grace, x86, or other ARM CPU servers, as well as NVIDIA OVX systems), accelerating various enterprise data center workloads.
MGX can be understood as a transitional form between HGX and DGX,with DGX being completely NVIDIA-branded servers and HGX being servers from various OEM manufacturers. MGX, on the other hand, is a set of standards and specifications established by NVIDIA for OEM manufacturers, which benefits partners by providing certain constraints to accelerate the rollout of new GPU cards while retaining their own logos and brands.

The above is a brief introduction to NVIDIA’s DGX, EGX, IGX, HGX, and MGX platforms. Each platform has different characteristics and applicable scenarios, and enterprises can choose the most suitable platform based on their needs to leverage their advantages in AI applications and computing.
