Due to the global pandemic, MediaTek has focused on products related to the “stay-at-home economy,” which includes personal computing devices such as tablets, laptops, and Chromebooks that meet the needs of remote work and entertainment.
To this end, at the end of May 2021, MediaTek launched the new “Kompanio” series mobile platform, with the first model being the Kompanio 820 (also known as MT8192). Its CPU/GPU architecture is the same as the well-known Dimensity 820, but the clock speed has decreased from 2.6GHz to 2.2GHz, and the maximum single-camera support has dropped from 80 million pixels to 32 million pixels.
At the end of July, MediaTek released the latest member of the Kompanio family—the Kompanio 1300T, aimed at providing an excellent user experience for online education, business office work, streaming entertainment, productivity creation, gaming, and AI applications, meeting the growing demand for mobile computing.
The MediaTek Kompanio 1300T mobile platform is built on TSMC’s 6nm process technology, featuring a dual-cluster architecture with 4 Cortex-A78 cores and 4 Cortex-A55 cores, integrating a Mali-G77 MC9 GPU and APU 3.0 unit. This platform supports the MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 gaming engine, which deeply optimizes various aspects such as gaming network, control, performance power consumption, and game graphics quality, allowing players to gain an advantage in games. The Kompanio 1300T also integrates a 5G module, supporting 5G Sub-6GHz full-band and 5G dual-carrier aggregation, 5G+5G dual SIM dual standby, MediaTek 5G UltraSave power-saving technology, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2.Does it look familiar?That’s right, the Kompanio 1300T is essentially a rebranded Dimensity 1100, but it supports a higher 120Hz refresh rate at QHD+ resolution, optimized specifically for large-screen tablets.Now, the MediaTek Kompanio family welcomes a new member, the Kompanio 900T, positioned between the Kompanio 1300T and Kompanio 820.
In simple terms, the Kompanio 900T is built on TSMC’s 6nm process technology, featuring an octa-core CPU architecture design, including 2 Cortex-A78 cores and 6 Cortex-A55 high-efficiency cores, integrating a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU and AI processor MediaTek APU 3.0, providing strong mobile computing power for devices. The Kompanio 900T also supports flagship-level LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage, compatible with 2K resolution 120Hz refresh rate screens.
The Kompanio 900T also integrates a 5G modem, supporting SA/NSA dual-mode networking, covering 5G Sub-6GHz full-band, supporting 5G dual-carrier aggregation and VoNR services, and other key 5G technologies, combined with MediaTek 5G UltraSave power-saving technology, allowing users to enjoy high-speed 5G networks while reducing 5G communication power consumption, extending device battery life, and enhancing productivity.Additionally, this chip supports 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, equipped with the MediaTek MiraVision image quality engine, intelligently enhancing video display quality, capable of enhancing SDR video content to near HDR display effects, upgrading HDR10 to near HDR10+, and supporting real-time image quality enhancement for HDR10+ video playback, improving the viewing experience of video images.Does it still look familiar?That’s right, the Kompanio 900T is actually a rebranded Dimensity 900, with consistent basic specifications, but the thermal redundancy of tablets is generally better than that of smartphones, so it can release performance a bit more effectively.
In summary, the performance of the Kompanio 900T is on par with Snapdragon 780 and Snapdragon 778, making it a mid-range SoC suitable for tablets priced at 2000 yuan or lower.
