On April 10, 2023, the leading e-paper display technology company, E Ink Technology, announced the launch of the largest size yet,75 inch color e-paper, utilizingE Ink Spectra™ 6 technology. This follows the debut of the75 inchE Ink Kaleido™ 3 product at the beginning of this year’sISE exhibition, showcasing the ongoing focus of the e-paper industry on large-size solution development.
Whether usingSpectra™ 6 orKaleido™ 3 technology, the current application terminals and scenarios for the75 inch product are: providing a new display experience for advertisers, brands, and retailers with high color saturation and full-color display features, along with extreme energy efficiency for digital signage.
1. Increasing Low Power Consumption Requirements in the Context of Carbon Neutrality
Currently, under the global push for carbon neutrality, countries have raised higher demands for the carbon reduction capabilities in the production and application processes of display devices, further promoting the development of low energy consumption in both production processes and application scenarios. This has laid a solid environmental foundation for the development of the e-paper industry.
In the European Union, in recent years, through a strict carbon emission trading system and the European Green Deal, efforts have been made to reduce carbon emissions during the production process for display device manufacturers and promote low carbonization throughout the product lifecycle. In terms of taxation, by expanding the scope of consumption tax and increasing the tax rates on high-energy-consuming products, companies are compelled to adopt energy-saving technologies and products.
In the United States, the Department of Energy has established energy efficiency standards for display devices, requiring compliance in standby power consumption, peak brightness, and other aspects. At the same time, the U.S. supports companies in developing low-carbon display technologies through tax credits and R&D subsidies.
In China, the 14th Five-Year Plan clearly lists new display technologies such as e-paper as key development directions, emphasizing paperless alternatives and low-carbon transformations. Local governments have introduced subsidy policies to encourage companies to adopt e-paper labels, low-power digital signage, and other products, with cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen widely promoting e-paper bus stop signs in public transportation.
2. The Development of Large-Size E-Paper
In recent years, the technological direction of e-paper has mainly focused on large-size and colorization, where the trend towards larger sizes is a significant driving force for carbon neutrality, with notable technological iterations.

TakingKaleido technology as an example, it has now been upgraded to the third generation, achieving significant improvements in color saturation, clarity, and more.In April 2024, the Kaleido™ 3 Outdoor color printing e-paper technology will be launched in the market, suitable for a wider outdoor temperature range, extending the operating temperature range from-15°C to65°C. In extremely cold or hot climates, there is no need to install expensive high-energy-consuming heating or cooling equipment, which can reduce additional power consumption. At the same time, it can provide dynamic color display capabilities and poster-like visual quality, making it a low-carbon outdoor display solution dedicated to displaying rich public information. Currently,11.3 inch,13.3 inch,25.3 inch,32 inch,42 inch products have already entered mass production.
On April 7, 2025, E Ink Technology announced again that its groundbreaking full-color e-paper technology,E Ink Marquee™, will debut on April 15, 2025. The new technology uses a new four-color particle display system, providing more vivid color effects and a wider temperature operating range, extending from-20°C to65°C, with a size development target of up to75 inches, and a screen update time reduced to5 to7 seconds.

3. The Demand for Low-Power Displays Combined with Mature Technology,2025 Will See a More Than 30% Increase in E-Paper Digital Signage Shipments
With the changes in energy structures in Europe and the United States, the power consumption requirements for display products are becoming increasingly stringent, and projects related to digital signage using e-paper display technology are continuously increasing in the European and American markets. However, high costs have historically deterred some companies from entering the market, leading to a long-term wait-and-see approach.
RUNTO Technology believes that the future evolution direction of the large-size e-paper industry chain will focus on optimizing product performance and reducing costs at all stages; and predicts that starting in2025, a large amount of potential market demand will be rapidly released and converted into actual demand, significantly increasing the industry scale; the total annual shipment of global e-paper digital signage will exceed280,000 units, with a year-on-year increase of over30%.
