Quin, a company specializing in accident detection, has produced a series of motorcycle helmet products. Since 2018, the company has been applying “sensor fusion and software” technology in helmets, and has also implemented this technology in some ABUS bicycle helmets. Quin claims that its proprietary technology can detect accidents and trigger emergency responses, while MIPS will acquire 25% of this sensor technology company—Quintessential Design Inc—for $7.3 million.
Max Strandwitz, CEO of MIPS, stated: “With this investment, MIPS has taken a solid first step in exploring the possibilities of helmet sensor technology. We firmly believe that Quin’s proprietary intelligent technology has multiple possibilities, and their consumer-centric approach helps save lives, which is at the core of our work. We look forward to a meaningful and collaborative partnership, and we are excited to leverage our capabilities to support Quin on this exciting journey ahead.”
Anirudha Surabhi, CEO of Quin, said: “Quin is thrilled to partner with MIPS, a true pioneer in the helmet industry. We greatly value the changes MIPS brings to global safety. Our shared vision and commitment to data-driven safety solutions make our collaboration a perfect match for driving innovation in this field. Quin continuously innovates, utilizing new technologies to enhance our sensor capabilities. MIPS strengthens our mission, and we are ready to embrace a new chapter that makes safety smarter, better, and more accessible for everyone.”
Currently, the overseas market has separately sold accident detection sensor components developed in collaboration with ABUS and Quin, and we look forward to MIPS and Quin’s partnership bringing us more new and smarter product forms and functionalities.
