According to media reports, some cities in Sydney have begun using little-known technology to monitor and capture drivers who exceed parking time limits.

It is reported that a special electronic sensor has appeared in the Penrith parking lot in western Sydney, which is installed in each parking space.

These sensors can record the time a vehicle first enters a parking space, and if a driver exceeds the parking time, the sensor will notify the municipal patrol officers.

Reports state: “The electronic sensors on the ground are linked to the municipal communication system. Once a vehicle enters, the recorded parking time is recalculated. If the parking time is exceeded, the sensor will report to the municipal council, and patrol officers will come to handle the violation.”

Reports indicate that these devices are embedded rectangular metal tags on the ground, and the battery life of the sensors can last up to ten years.

It is claimed that many municipal councils have already begun using these parking sensors. In the Sydney area, councils such as Penrith City Council, Mosman City Council, and Northern Beaches City Council have installed these numbered sensors.
