Samsung’s China Operations Suspended? Rockchip and Samsung Officially Deny Rumors
Recently, rumors regarding “Samsung’s wafer fab suspending all operations in China” have attracted widespread attention. As a long-term partner of Samsung, Rockchip, a publicly listed semiconductor company in China, issued an official statement through its WeChat account to clarify the situation. The statement indicated that after direct verification with Samsung’s wafer fab, it confirmed that the rumor is entirely false. Currently, the research and production of several chip products in collaboration with Samsung are proceeding in an orderly manner.
In response to the related rumors, Samsung Semiconductor also released an official clarification announcement, clearly stating that the claim of “Samsung’s wafer foundry suspending new project collaborations with certain Chinese companies” is a miscommunication. The announcement emphasized that Samsung’s wafer foundry business continues to operate normally with its Chinese clients, unaffected by any external factors.
It is noteworthy that the United States has indeed implemented related restrictions, requiring major global foundries, including TSMC and Samsung, to cease providing foundry services for AI chips with a 7nm process or more advanced to customers in mainland China since last November. Currently, globally, only TSMC, Samsung, and Intel have the capability for mass production at 7nm and below. Among them, Intel primarily serves its own products, making Samsung a preferred partner for many Chinese manufacturers seeking alternatives in light of TSMC’s restrictions.
According to industry insiders, some Chinese chip design companies have begun discussions with Samsung to explore advanced process foundry services that would replace the business previously handled by TSMC. This trend reflects that the Chinese semiconductor industry is actively seeking diversified supply chain solutions in the current complex international environment.
Market data shows that the demand for the AIoT market exceeded expectations in the first quarter of this year. As a leading company in the domestic AIoT SoC chip design field, Rockchip is seizing industry development opportunities and implementing specialized and refined operational strategies for its AIoT product line. This strategy has led to a continuous increase in the market penetration and share of the company across various segments of AIoT.
In the diverse application scenarios of AIoT, Rockchip has focused on automotive electronics, intelligent robotics, machine vision, industrial automation, and professional audio. Particularly in the automotive electronics sector, the company’s product line has comprehensively covered various sub-markets, including intelligent cockpit systems, digital dashboards, in-vehicle infotainment systems, in-vehicle audio solutions, and ADAS visual processing. In the robotics field, Rockchip has established deep collaborations with several leading domestic robot manufacturers, with its chip solutions applied to various service robot products, maintaining a leading market share in the industry. In the future, the company will continue to leverage its rich matrix of AIoT chip products to further expand the application space of robotics in more emerging scenarios.
