Qualcomm has always held a dominant position in the mobile SoC industry, with products covering high, mid, and low-end markets, especially in the high-end segment of the Android ecosystem, where its position remains unchallenged.
Since entering the 5G era, Qualcomm has begun to lay out its 5G market. Now, Qualcomm’s layout for mid to high-end 5G SoCs is complete, with the high-end Snapdragon 865 leading the way, and the mid-range Snapdragon 765, 765G, and 768G holding the fort. However, Qualcomm seems to have made little progress in the low-end 5G SoC market.
Recently, there have been reports indicating that Qualcomm is preparing the Snapdragon 6 series 5G SoCs.According to digital blogger @数码闲聊站, Qualcomm is developing its first Snapdragon 6 series 5G SoC, the SM6350. The SM6350 features a design of 2 large cores and 6 small cores, with the two large cores clocked at 2.246GHz and the six small cores at 1.804GHz.
What architecture the SM6350 will adopt is still unknown; it could be ARM Cortex A76 or ARM Cortex A77. In terms of GPU, the SM6350 may use the Adreno 615, with a clock speed of 850MHz.
Regarding pricing, Qualcomm’s mid-range SoCs are generally priced around 2000 yuan, with the 765G priced between 1500 and 2000 yuan, and the upgraded 768G starting at just 1999 yuan. Therefore, based on this, the new SoC is expected to be priced around 1000 yuan.
Recently, a model named QUALCOMM Lito for arm64 appeared on the Geekbench 4 benchmarking website. According to the scores, this SoC achieved a single-core score of 3036 and a multi-core score of 7110 (based on Android AArch64 with Geekbench 4.2.0).
From the information on Geekbench, we can see that this device is equipped with 8GB of RAM and runs on the Android 10 operating system.According to @数码闲聊站, the processor in this device is an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 765, featuring one 2.71GHz A76 core, one 2.34GHz A76 core, and six 1.8GHz A55 cores, using the Adreno 620 GPU.
Although the frequency has increased, its performance still cannot compete with the Dimensity 820 and Kirin 820. Therefore, if Qualcomm wants to truly establish a foothold in the mid to low-end market, it needs to work harder. It is rumored that MediaTek’s MT6853 is on the way, and Kirin is also developing low-end 5G chips, which will lead to a fierce competition among these three companies in the low-end chip market.
