This time, Qualcomm’s new mid-rangeSnapdragon 8s Gen4 has significant upgrades compared toSnapdragon 8s Gen3, with a CPU design featuring 1 super core and 7 large cores, and nearly double the cache. The performance results from the database in terms of benchmarking, efficiency, and gaming are as follows:In terms of chip microarchitecture:Snapdragon 8s Gen4 is manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process, with a CPU consisting of 1 3.2GHz X4 super core and 7 A720 large cores (3 cores at 3.0GHz A720, 2 cores at 2.8GHz A720, and 2 cores at 2.0GHz A720). The GPU operates at 1150MHz with Adreno 825. (The accompanying image shows the microarchitecture of the previous generationSnapdragon 8s Gen3, which has improved CPU core composition and frequency, with significant upgrades in cache.)
In terms of benchmarking performance,for the CPU: Snapdragon 8s Gen4 scored 2232 points in Geekbench6 single-core and 7308 points in multi-core, with a comprehensive score of 143 in the database ladder chart, higher than the Dimensity 8400 (127 points) but slightly lower than Snapdragon 8 Gen3 (147 points);
For the GPU: Aztec 1440P at 90FPS, 3DMark Wild Life Extreme scored 5100 points, with a comprehensive GPU score of 174 in the database ladder chart, higher than the Dimensity 8400 (135 points) but slightly lower than Snapdragon 8 Gen3 (181 points);
Snapdragon 8s Gen4 scored 154 points in the comprehensive processor ladder chart, higher than the Dimensity 8400 (130 points) but lower than Snapdragon 8 Gen3 (159 points).
In terms of efficiency performance,in the 3D Mark SNL efficiency test, Snapdragon 8s Gen4 peaked at 1864 points, leading Snapdragon 8 Gen3 by about 10%, with a power consumption of approximately 8.6W, closely matching the curve of the 9300+.
Geekbench6 multi-core peaked at 7468 points, with power consumption close to 10W, leading Dimensity 8400 by about 20%. At low frequencies below 3W, both performed similarly.
In terms of gaming performance, the Snapdragon 8s Gen4 engineering machine was tested in the long-duration gaming scenario of “Honor of Kings” for 1 hour: average frame rate of 119.1FPS (max frame rate 120), with a power consumption of 5.5W.
In multi-scenario gaming tests for “Genshin Impact”: average frame rate of 59.6FPS (max frame rate 60), with a power consumption of 5.9W.
In high-pressure scenarios for “Star Rail”: average frame rate of 50.6FPS (max frame rate 60), with a power consumption of 7.1W.(The accompanying image also shows the gaming performance of Dimensity 8400 Ultra, Snapdragon 8 Gen3, andSnapdragon 8s Gen3 models.)For more test results, you can check the video recap above. We will continue testing once the mass production units are available~
