The summoner spells in the bot lane have not changed much over the years. Since the S4 season, the combination of Flash, Heal, Support Flash, and Exhaust has become the mainstream choice, continuing until the S7 season. However, after numerous updates to summoner spells, can we explore some unusual changes for the bot lane? Are there other spells that could enter the bot lane? Today, we will discuss the summoner spells for bot lane combinations.

First, let’s look at the essential spell for most AD champions, Heal. About ninety percent of AD players default to Flash and Heal because the benefits of Heal in the bot lane are quite high. The duo’s healing plus movement speed boost essentially outperforms other summoner spells. Additionally, due to the passive effect, the bot lane cannot use double Heal, and the support must take Exhaust, which is why AD players choose Heal. Regardless, Heal remains a necessary spell for bot lane combinations.
While Heal is essential, is Exhaust also necessary? The answer is no. The reason is that Exhaust does not provide as high a benefit as Heal. Moreover, considering the nerfs from previous versions, Exhaust has lost its ability to reduce enemy attack speed and weaken enemy resistances. This means that Exhaust’s effectiveness in bot lane skirmishes is far less than in past versions, giving supports a reason to replace Exhaust. Choosing other summoner spells based on the situation to assist teammates is key.
Since Exhaust can be replaced, we need to find a summoner spell that can maximize effectiveness in the bot lane. Indeed, that spell is Ignite. Ignite can be said to be on par with Exhaust and has a counter effect against Heal, making it very suitable for aggressive supports like Nami and Star Guardian in this version. An Ignite can make them feel very uncomfortable, as they cannot heal AD effectively, and it also adds damage, making it easier to secure kills, something Exhaust cannot achieve.
Furthermore, the Cleanse spell has started to gain popularity recently. This is a new idea. As mentioned earlier, Heal is essential, but Exhaust is not. Considering the increasingly poor survival environment for AD in this version, especially against champions like Elise and Thresh, one might get caught easily. Sometimes, just having a Cleanse isn’t enough. Thus, we see AD players taking Cleanse while supports take Heal. This setup often occurs when the support is a protective type and the enemy support or jungler has strong crowd control. This method can maximize the combat capability of the bot lane combination. For example, when the support is Lulu, AD takes Cleanse, and Lulu takes Heal. In a skirmish, the enemy will likely apply Exhaust on AD, but Cleanse can directly remove it. If lucky, it can also cleanse a control effect. In this case, both sides have equal summoner spells; the enemy AD has Heal, and our support has it too. AD taking Cleanse against champions like Thresh works very well, rendering the enemy’s control and Exhaust nearly ineffective against AD. Meanwhile, AD possesses a skill that can cleanse control and Exhaust, making it much stronger in fights than having a useless Exhaust.
Blitzcrank, Janna
For Blitzcrank, Ignite is his standard configuration. A Blitzcrank with Ignite is extremely fierce; if he hooks someone early, they are dead without question. Janna has also recently become popular with Ignite because players have found that very few champions can withstand her harassment in lane. Janna can often reduce the enemy’s health significantly, and when she has Ignite, she can apply it directly in skirmishes, making it difficult for the enemy to heal and increasing the chance of securing kills.
Janna, Lulu
Janna and Lulu are very suitable for supports to take Heal while AD takes Cleanse because they have excellent countermeasures against assassins and melee champions. They do not need to rely on Exhaust to save AD. Whether it’s Janna’s ultimate or Lulu’s W turning enemies into sheep, they can effectively counter enemy champions. At this point, AD can supplement with Cleanse to increase survivability. In team fights, having Cleanse and Mercury Treads means that even if caught, they remain unfazed.
