According to foreign media reports, Microsoft is forming a Rust development team for internal work and collaboration with the community.
Rust is a relatively new programming language introduced by Mozilla. Last year, Mozilla announced layoffs of about 250 people, including active members of the Rust project and community. Since then, several major tech companies have begun to recruit laid-off Rust developers. Microsoft has also posted a job listing for a Chief Software Engineer related to Rust, to attract talent.
The job listing clearly states that the engineer will work on internal systems while collaborating with the Rust open-source community. The engineer will be part of a newly established team within the company.
We are looking for engineers to study the Rust compiler and tools to support the use of the Rust programming language.
In this role, you will work closely with Microsoft’s product teams to gather requirements and develop improvements for Rust tools. You will join a newly formed team whose vision is to support Microsoft’s Rust while also collaborating with the broader Rust OSS community and sharing these improvements.
You will handle significant internal systems programming workloads alongside some of Microsoft’s most talented engineers.
Previously, AWS also announced an increase in support for Rust, planning to hire more Rust developers to support the open-source community behind this young language. They revealed that the company is building a Rust and Tokio team to support its long-term plans. Additionally, the AWS open-source team has hired Rust compiler co-founder Felix Klock.
