Introduction
Have you noticed a problem in the previous lessons? A significant portion of the commands we have taught so far directly outputs to the terminal screen. For example, you should have developed muscle memory for the ls command. Whether you successfully run the ls command and get a file list or the command fails for some reason, the result of the command execution will be output on the screen. Clearly, some commands or options are not suitable for direct output on the screen. For instance, when processing fastq files, we cannot output the results to the screen; instead, we need to store the data in local files. The redirection feature we will discuss in this lesson can help us solve this problem.
