Introduction to the C-5 Galaxy Transport Aircraft
The Lockheed C-5 “Galaxy” is one of the largest strategic transport aircraft currently in service with the United States Air Force, designed to provide heavy cargo transport capabilities globally. The C-5M “Super Galaxy,” as its latest variant, is equipped with modern avionics and more powerful GE CF6 engines, enhancing performance and reliability, with plans to remain in service until 2040 and beyond.

The aircraft features a massive cargo hold, measuring 37 meters in length, 4.1 meters in height, and 5.8 meters in width, capable of accommodating up to 36 standard military pallets or various oversized equipment, such as main battle tanks, helicopters, or even complete ground combat systems.

The C-5 has a maximum takeoff weight of approximately 381 tons, with a maximum payload capacity of around 120 tons. Even when fully loaded, it can fly at a speed of 0.79 Mach and take off and land on relatively short runways, adapting to various conditions. Additionally, the design of the C-5 allows for simultaneous loading and unloading operations through both the front and rear cargo doors, greatly enhancing logistics efficiency. These features make the C-5 an indispensable asset for the U.S. military in executing rapid deployment and logistical support missions.
