When declaring chips for customs, customs usually requires the provision of wafer origin information (Wafer Origin). However, many people find that the official website of STMicroelectronics does not directly provide this information. So, is there another way to accurately determine the wafer origin of the chip?
The answer is: you can determine it through the chip’s packaging label (Label) or chip marking (Marking).
1. Identifying Wafer Origin through Chip Packaging Label
What is a chip packaging label?
When chips are shipped, a label is usually affixed to the outer packaging box or bag, containing important information such as the chip model and trace code (Trace Code). Among these, the trace code is key, as it contains the wafer factory code and packaging test factory code.

How to determine wafer origin through the code?
The wafer factory codes are as follows (if any codes are missing, please contact me for a free lookup):

2. Identifying Wafer Origin through Chip Marking
What is chip marking?
Chip marking refers to the identification printed on the front of the chip, which contains hidden wafer and packaging location information. The way this information is marked is relatively standard and can be used to identify the production process.

How to read wafer origin information from the marking?
The marking usually includes:
【PP】 represents the packaging test factory code, typically displayed using country abbreviations. For example, MYS represents MALAYSIA;
【WX】 represents the wafer factory code, which is consistent with the wafer factory code on the packaging label.
The position of the marking content varies slightly depending on the packaging type; finding the content at the positions of 【PP】 and 【WX】 will reveal the wafer factory location.

3. Other Methods to Determine Wafer Origin
Method 1: Refer to the PCN Document (Product Change Notice)
PCN is a product change notice issued by ST, which often contains production information such as wafer origin and packaging location. You can check the PCN through digikey or mouser.

Method 2: Contact Us
If you have specific chip models and packaging information, you can also contact us directly, and we can help you look it up for free.
About Us
We do not sell chips! We do not sell chips! We do not sell chips! Important things are said three times!
The original intention of 【Guanxin Cloud】 is to create a transparent chip information query platform. We hope that through this tool, users can query chip prices, inventory, and price trends from multiple public channels with one click, helping engineers, procurement, and supply chain personnel to obtain market information more efficiently.
We understand that some users have procurement or sales needs, so we are prepared to provide free matching services.
If you have buying or selling needs, you can contact us through the platform. We can match resources for you for free. In the case of suitable supply and demand, we allow both parties to connect and trade on their own. Throughout the process, we do not participate in transactions and do not charge any fees.
