With the increasing richness of people’s material lives, the proportion of food in daily social life is also rising, and various oral care issues are becoming more prevalent. The first step in oral care is “brushing teeth”. So, how do we choose a toothbrush?
Undoubtedly, compared to regular toothbrushes, the experience of using electric toothbrushes is absolutely upgraded and enjoyable. By wirelessly connecting electric toothbrushes with smartphones or other devices, we can make our daily brushing more efficient.
The wireless module under Kaga Electronics’ new brand “CONTINECT” is also used in electric toothbrushes. By connecting the toothbrush to an application via the wireless module, we can check for residue on our teeth while logging our daily brushing results in the app, allowing us to understand brushing habits and check oral health.
The typical diameter of an electric toothbrush handle is about 3 cm, with a total weight of approximately 130g, which is lighter than a paperback book. Considering that the toothbrush handle will also contain multifunctional sensors, the area available for installing the wireless module is very limited. The size of the “ultra-small module” in the CONTINECT IoT solution is surprisingly small, with dimensions of 3.25 x 8.55 x 0.85 (mm). This size does not interfere with other onboard sensors, allowing it to be integrated into small wearable devices that would otherwise be discarded due to circuit board size constraints.
It achieves the smallest level in the world (3.25 x 8.55 mm).
This size also includes a built-in antenna and main clock, eliminating the need for external wireless components. Since everything is integrated into this module, it can operate wirelessly as long as it has power. CONTINECT has records of installations on 6 mm wide circuit boards, and its ability to make the circuit board thinner allows it to be installed in familiar slim devices like electric toothbrushes.
It weighs less than 0.1g.
By reducing the area and using shielding mold technology*, it is lighter than metal shielding products, making it very suitable for installation in products where weight is critical, such as wearables and handheld devices, without making you feel the wireless module is included.
* A technique that seals the module with resin and covers the surface with a metal film, eliminating the need for a metal shell to block internal and external noise.

CONTINECT has prepared 3D CAD data and size information for customers to consider whether it can be installed in their products. There are many items to confirm when installing, such as whether it fits the product casing, the thickness after installation, interference with other components, positional checks, and wiring checks for the mainboard, etc. Additionally, CONTINECT has prepared 3D CAD data and external dimension diagrams to assist customers during the product specification review phase.
When using the CONTINECT wireless module, Kaga Electronics can also provide antenna measurement services to achieve high levels of communication distance and design. Even if the wireless module is embedded in the product casing, it is meaningless if wireless connectivity is difficult. The mainboard, casing resin, metal, and even human hands surrounding the wireless module antenna can affect radio waves and impact the product’s communication distance. To make the product smaller and facilitate wireless installation, considering antenna positioning is essential. Some board mounting positions can provide ideal antenna orientation and wireless performance, but if the product’s shape is prioritized, it can be challenging to install under ideal conditions. By utilizing antenna measurement support services, wireless performance can be checked in the integrated state of the customer’s product or during trial production.
