The construction of GCC Corporation’s new office has been completed, and we have also finished relocating to our carefully crafted workspace.
This time, our design concept is to create a unique space that combines the charm of Kyoto with modern functionality, allowing both employees and visiting guests to experience comfort and beauty in this environment.
Many people often perceive offices as monotonous and dull, lacking warmth. However, being situated in the world-renowned historical city of Kyoto, we aim to create a distinctive office environment. Thus, from the beginning of the design process, we considered how to create a space that not only showcases our unique style but also immerses visitors in the atmosphere of Kyoto—a Machiya-style café office.
This space is not only a workplace for employees but also a reflection of our company culture and a window for clients to get to know us. We hope that employees can work in a comfortable and inspiring environment, filled with motivation. At the same time, we want all clients and partners who come from afar to personally feel our dedication to quality and design through this space.
Integrating Kyoto’s Machiya Style with Modern Functionality
We have cleverly blended the aesthetics of traditional Kyoto inns with modern design to create a space that is both elegant and practical. For example:
Traditional earthen wall appearance—reproducing the Machiya style with modern technology, showcasing the beauty of the fusion of old and new.
The eaves design adopts the traditional tiled eaves of Kyoto, which are rarely seen in modern new constructions. The tiles are also the distinctive Manju tiles of Kyoto, presenting a unique eave line.
Double-height design—connecting the first and second floors to enhance openness and natural light.
Space functional zoning design—cleverly divided according to usage needs.Office area, reception area, conference area, and signing room enhance usage efficiency and spatial flow.
Zen garden—using a minimalist Zen-inspired courtyard landscape to convey a tranquil and focused atmosphere.
Bar and kitchen—providing a space for relaxed communication, enhancing the warmth of the office.
Wafū details—Wafū elements integrated: Tatami lounge area provides a comfortable corner for resting, reading, or meditating.
Washi windows: Creating a warm atmosphere with soft light, adding depth to the space.
Traditional Wafū decorations: Using Kyoto-style traditional decorations, focusing on natural materials, recreating the ancient elegance of Kyoto.
