ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) is an intelligent system that enhances driving safety and comfort by using onboard sensors (such as radar, cameras, and LiDAR), electronic control units (ECUs), and algorithms to perceive the vehicle’s surrounding environment in real-time, providing warnings or active interventions to the driver. As automotive intelligence accelerates, millimeter-wave radar is becoming a key sensor in ADAS systems. This year, leading Chinese automakers have announced increased investments in intelligent driving assistance solutions. BYD’s “Heavenly Eye” and Changan’s “Beidou Tian Shu 2.0” adopt a 5R (5 radars) configuration, while Geely’s “Qianli Haohan” and Chery’s “Falcon Assistance Driving” have also deployed 3R–5R solutions, leading to a surge in demand for millimeter-wave radar chips.

The unique advantage of millimeter-wave radar lies in its ability to effectively compensate for the limitations of optical sensors. In complex scenarios such as front vehicle occlusion, nighttime, tunnel backlighting, and rain or fog, millimeter-wave radar ensures the perception system operates reliably in all weather conditions, becoming an indispensable part of active safety systems. As the functions of automotive driving assistance systems evolve, multi-sensor fusion is becoming a trend. Millimeter-wave radar plays an irreplaceable role in the fusion perception architecture due to its ranging accuracy and anti-interference capabilities.

At the theme forum of this auto show—the 2025 Automotive Semiconductor Ecosystem Conference—Gateland’s Marketing Director Wu Xiang was invited to give a speech. At the conference, leaders from the China Energy Automotive Communication Group and representatives from companies like Gateland jointly released the 2024 China New Energy Vehicle Industry Blue Book, which comprehensively presents the achievements and practices of the 2024 China New Energy Vehicle industry in terms of policies, regulations, product technology, and corporate development, aiming to provide authoritative references for government decision-making, corporate strategic planning, and investor decisions.

Gateland’s disruptive innovation mainly lies in breaking the traditional discrete GaAs/SiGe MMICs + MCUs millimeter-wave radar architecture, being the first to launch a highly integrated SoC (System on Chip) that integrates radar signal processing baseband (BBA) hardware accelerators, significantly reducing system complexity and cost, bringing a new revolution for the development of high-performance, easy-to-develop, miniaturized millimeter-wave radar sensors. In addition, Gateland has successfully launched and mass-produced the world’s first 77 GHz and 60 GHz millimeter-wave radar Antenna in Package (AiP) SoC chip. Gateland’s innovative millimeter-wave radar AiP SoC chip further reduces the size, power consumption, and cost of radar modules, creating new application scenarios for short-range radar inside and outside the cabin, such as door radar, APA (Automatic Parking Assist), and cabin radar.

AiP technology is popular in emerging short-range radar applications inside and outside the cabin

Based on the results of disruptive innovation, Gateland continuously achieves technological iteration and upgrades through sustained innovation, enhancing product performance:

  • Self-developed radar signal processor (RSP), which upgrades the architecture compared to BBA, significantly improving the flexibility and processing performance of the SoC system;

  • Innovative flexible cascading (Flex-Cascading®) technology, applied to Gateland’s Andes series radar SoC chip CAL77C844-AR, achieving imaging radar through a two-chip cascading solution and simplifying BOM, providing strong hardware support for advanced intelligent driving assistance systems;

  • Gateland’s cutting-edge and innovative RoP® (Radiator on Package) technology enhances ESD robustness by providing a radiating millimeter-wave signal interface, offering better solutions for connecting waveguide antennas. It has been applied to Gateland’s Alps-Pro and Andes series SoC chips, significantly improving radar detection performance and angular resolution when combined with waveguide antenna systems.
