Recently, in collaboration with engineers from Renesas and RT-Thread, the RT-Thread BSP framework and tutorial for the Renesas Cortex-M RA product family MCUs have been released. This means that developers using RA MCUs (RA2 series, RA4 series, RA6 series) can quickly create their own BSPs based on the tutorial, enhancing development efficiency through the rich components and packages provided by RT-Thread.

The RT-Thread BSP for RA MCUs integrates Renesas’ Flexible Software Package (FSP) configuration tools. The graphical interface of FSP (RASC, RA Smart Configurator) allows users to visually select the chips used and configure any pins and peripherals, reducing the workload of low-level development and saving time.

The RT-Thread BSP framework for RA MCUs not only significantly increases code reuse and reduces BSP maintenance costs but also provides developers with richer driver files, making it easier for them to find the resources they need. Its main features are as follows:
-
Using the RA template project generated by FSP, it reduces the difficulty of adding new BSPs.
-
Universal driver files that allow developers to easily use all drivers.
-
Graphical configuration of chip peripherals using the FSP configuration tool.
Each BSP consists of two main parts: a universal driver library and a specific development board BSP. The table below takes the CPK-RA6M4 BSP as an example:

To help developers better understand the RA MCU RT-Thread BSP creation tutorial and its usage process, this Thursday (March 31st) at 8 PM, RT-Thread engineers will conduct a live broadcast explaining the relevant porting, using the RA2L1 development board as an example.

Below is a brief introduction to the RA MCU products to help developers better understand the RA product family MCUs and choose the appropriate model for use.
RA Product Family MCUs
Renesas Advanced (RA) 32-bit MCUs use Arm® Cortex®-M33, Arm® Cortex®-M23, and Arm® Cortex®-M4 processor cores. The Renesas RA product family microcontrollers include four series—the already released RA2 series, suitable for low-power applications; the RA4 series, suitable for devices requiring low power, high performance, and high security; and the RA6 series, which features excellent connectivity and security capabilities. Renesas also plans to release the RA8 series.
For the roadmap of Renesas Electronics RA MCU products, please refer to the following:

The features of the released RA2, RA4, and RA6 series are as follows:
RA2 Series
Low power: Based on the Arm Cortex-M23 core, with a maximum frequency of 48MHz, it has up to 512KB of flash memory and 64KB of SRAM. The power supply voltage range is from 1.6V to 5.5V. Peripherals include full-speed USB, CAN, 24-bit Σ-Δ ADC, 12-bit DAC, capacitive touch sensing, and security features.
RA4 Series
High performance and excellent power consumption: Built on the Arm Cortex-M33 core with TrustZone support or the Arm Cortex-M4F core, with a maximum frequency of 100MHz. Up to 1MB of flash memory and 128KB of SRAM. Voltage range from 1.6V to 5.5V. Peripherals include capacitive touch sensing, segment LCD controller, full-speed USB, CAN, security features, as well as data converters and timers. The RA4W1 series devices also come with Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) 5.0.
RA6 Series
High performance: Based on the Arm Cortex-M33 core with TrustZone support or the Arm Cortex-M4F core. Maximum frequency of 240MHz. Up to 2MB of flash memory and 640KB of SRAM. Voltage range from 2.7V to 3.6V. Peripherals include data converters, timers, external storage buses, Ethernet, full-speed and high-speed USB, CAN, security features, capacitive touch sensing, and graphics LCD controllers for TFT displays, as well as 2D graphics acceleration engines. The RA6Tx series devices come with enhanced peripherals for motor control, such as high-resolution PWM timers or advanced analog modules.
