Comparison of Eye Protection: OLED vs LCD Screens

Many fans have previously asked which is more eye-friendly, OLED or LCD screens? To answer everyone’s questions, I will provide a unified response in this article.
OLED and LCD screens are actually quite similar, both emit blue light, and there is no screen that is particularly more eye-friendly.
If you don’t believe it, you can take a look at the results I obtained using a spectrometer to measure both an OLED screen phone and an LCD screen phone.
This is a colleague’s phone, Huawei nova3 with an LCD screen:

This is another colleague’s phone, Samsung SM-A7050 with an OLED screen:

Looking at the spectral graphs measured by the spectrometer for both OLED and LCD screens, we can see that both phone screens emit a high amount of blue light, consistently higher than the peaks for blue and red light. Therefore, there is no screen that is more eye-friendly; both emit blue light, which means they can cause harm to the eyes.
Which is more eye-friendly depends on the amount of blue light that harms the eyes. The key is not whether you use an OLED or an LCD screen, but rather how long you use your phone.
Director Chen Yingshan emphasized that the light emitted by mobile phones and tablets is not actually very strong; the duration of use and habits are the key factors that harm the eyes.
Reducing 3C screen time is the only way to truly protect your eyes!!!
When blue light enters the eyes, its energy accumulates over time. We know that when pulling a rubber band with a small force, it won’t break, but if I pull with a greater force, the rubber band will eventually break. The same principle applies to the eyes; the lower energy blue light remains within the eye’s tolerance range, but once the accumulated blue light energy exceeds the threshold, it can cause irreversible light damage to the eyes.
If you want to protect your eyes, you must either fundamentally reduce the time spent on your phone or take protective measures to reduce the blue light energy entering your eyes.

It seems that many of us lack the discipline to put down our phones and resist the urge to play with them, making it nearly impossible to reduce phone usage time. In that case, go buy a pair of blue light blocking glasses that can truly block the blue light from electronic screens! Wear blue light blocking glasses while using your phone to reduce the blue light energy entering your eyes.
