Following the U.S. Department of Commerce’s ban on the export of AMD’s MI308 and NVIDIA’s H20 to China, there are new reports in the market indicating that NVIDIA’s “China-specific flagship graphics card” RTX 5090D will also be suspended from supply.
The Chinese user experience sharing and communication community “Chiphell” reported that NVIDIA has not formally notified graphics card authorized manufacturers (Add in Cards, abbreviated as AIC) with official documents; most notifications were verbal, stating only that the 5090D supply is suspended, and reminding everyone that this does not represent any sales ban or embargo, urging not to make any speculations or judgments unless there is an official notice later.
Some AICs have already informed their supply chains to suspend the procurement and delivery of 5090D materials. Since the inventory of 5090D has always been quite limited, it is necessary to retain this inventory to observe the subsequent situation and handle after-sales, while brands have not made any positive responses regarding the suspension of 5090D supply.
Additionally, cooling module manufacturers have also received notifications from AICs to halt orders and subsequent material procurement for 5090D, significantly lowering the priority for shipments.
According to Hong Kong media HKEPC, if the supply suspension is confirmed, it will undoubtedly impact AIC partners, especially brands like Colorful, Palit, and PC Partner, as their original market plans may be disrupted.
Moreover, it is crucial to note whether players in Hong Kong will be able to easily acquire the 5090D in the future, which will be a matter of concern.
NVIDIA released the RTX 50 series graphics cards on January 7 this year, including the mainland-specific flagship graphics card RTX 5090D that complies with U.S. export control regulations, which was launched on January 30. Compared to the RTX 5090, the RTX 5090D does not differ in gaming performance but has limitations in AI, with AI computing power reduced by approximately 29%.

Is H20’s fire affecting 5090D?According to leaks, NVIDIA has sent a notification to all AICs, informing them that the graphics card 5090D is suspended from supply to China, and reminding that this does not represent any sales ban or embargo, urging not to make any speculations or judgments unless there is an official notice later. It should be noted thatdue to the U.S. chip ban at the end of last year, NVIDIA’s RTX 5090 graphics card will be discontinued in mainland China, replaced by the specific version RTX 5090D.
Some bloggers claim that the suspension of 5090D supply is definitely not because it might be released later; considering the recent announcement of theH20 sales ban,it is more likely that the U.S. government has introduced new, stricter sales power standards, which mainly target the H20 power card, and the 5090D might also be on the edge of this new standard, leading to a situation where NVIDIA is unsure whether it can continue selling the 5090D.
This is very similar to the state of the graphics card 4090 when the sales ban on A100 and H100 was first introduced; at that time, the U.S. government also announced a standard mainly targeting A100 and H100, but the 4090 was also on the edge. The industry was speculating whether the 4090 could continue to be sold, and not long after, the 4090 was also listed among the banned sales, leading NVIDIA to develop the 4090D to replace the 4090.
Out of caution,NVIDIA has suspended the supply of 5090D to China; whether the supply of 5090D will resume in the future may mainly depend on the U.S. government’s attitude and the progress of Sino-U.S. relations..
Currently, the export of H20 to China requires a license, including products from AMD and Intel. Some analysts suggest that if this situation does not improve, the 5090D will be the last generation of ultra-flagship cards.
Overall, the impact is still unfolding. According to information previously released by NVIDIA, the price of the RTX 5090D is 16,499 yuan, and it has been reported that the procurement price has increased by 40%, with the price per chip now reaching 21,600 yuan based on the exchange rate.Last month, media reported that due to the inability to obtain the RTX 5090D, the first batch of goods nationwide was less than 100 units.
There are also bloggers reporting that all brands of 5090D have entered a large-scale production halt; if the halt continues in May and June, there will be no further shipments of 5090D during its lifecycle.
