Recently, the hottest chip is what? I wonder if you have an answer in your mind. I think it is the RK3588. I have unboxed quite a few RK3588 development boards, from Firefly’s first ITX-3588J to various RK3588 development boards. But there is one development board that I have been looking forward to for a long time, and that is

Recently, I finally got it. Let’s take a look at this development board.
I really like the color of the PCB of this development board, that beautiful and textured green.
The 40-pin IO interface is the same as the Raspberry Pi, and the pins have different colors to differentiate different functions, which is both beautiful and practical. There are many fixing holes, and you can use your imagination on how to fix it.
The most attractive thing about Rock5B is its price.
Now its
Memory (LPDDR4X) | Price |

4GB | 1018 |
8GB | 1155 |
16GB | 1484 |
Rock5Bdoes not come with eMMC by default, but provides an interface for installing eMMC modules
You canpurchase eMMC modules separately, and once you buy and install them, you can use them.

The interfaces are also quite rich.
It has aType-C USB3.1 full-featured interface, supportsPD2.0 protocol andQC3.0 protocol power supply, with a voltage of up to 20V. It supportsconversion to DP interface, which can support up to 8K 30FPS. It can achieve5V PoE power supply through pins.
It hastwo HDMI2.1 interfaces that support 8K60FPS video output. OneMicroHDMI 2.0 input interface supports 4K60FPS video input.
MIPI CSI and MIPI DSI are also available.
It has two USB2.0 and two USB3.0 interfaces. One2.5Gbps network port.
One PCIe3.0x4 NVME M Key solid-state drive interface.
One PCIe2.0x1 M.2 E Key interface, which caninsert a Wi-Fi module to support Wi-Fi6 and Bluetooth.
The official recommendation is to use the RTL8852BE model Wi-Fi module.

Previously, RK3588 development boards cost at least two thousand. Therefore, when the news of its release came out, everyone was immediately excited, as the price is attractive. However, it is regrettable that it missed the first release and took several months to buy.
I think it is worth this price, with a relatively high cost-performance ratio. However, it should be noted that if you want a full configuration, such as needingeMMC, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, these all require extra money.
If you don’t need these so much, this is very suitable for you. However, if you need them, including the cost of these modules, there are actually similar priced products, and the cost-performance ratio is not that high anymore.
If you find it expensive, there are actually cheaper development boards with RK3588S chips available, but the performance is not as extreme. Moreover, based on my actual tests, the performance has about a 10% decline, which needs to be noted.
Moreover, it hasremoved the PCIe3.0x4 high bandwidth interface. The IO interfaces and performance have been slightly downgraded. However, the price is also more attractive.
Actually, the positioning of these two chips has changed. RK3588S is replacing the old RK3399 chip, and this is themain player for sales, while RK3588 is tasked withimpacting the high-end market.
My personal suggestion is that if you only care about the performance of RK3588, then you only need to buy RK3588S, there is no need to spend more money. If you need a very fast NVME interface and more interfaces, then RK3588 is still your best choice.
It should be noted that recently the price of Rock5B has increased significantly, and now you can no longer buy Rock5B for 1000, and it has already startedto be out of stock. The RK3588 chip uses 8nm process technology, and obviously, it still relies on foreign countries, so those who need to purchase should hurry up. After that, the situation is still uncertain.
You can also wait a bit longer for Rock5A and CM5. CM5 is the core board of the RK3588S chip.
The specific situation of Rock5A is still unclear, but we can also look forward to it.
Alright, that’s about it for today. If you have anything to say, remember to leave a message, and if you think what I said is good, remember to like. See you next time.

Recently, we have created adevelopment board selection website. Although it is not very perfect yet, we have recorded about 400 development boards. If you are interested or have needs, you can take a look at our selection website. If you have any good suggestions, you can also say it in the group or leave us a message.
Recently, we have launched aRaspberry Pi alternative section, which you can check out if you are interested.
The domain name of our website is: findboard.cn
