Major Original Breakthrough in Thermal Radiation Metamaterials: AI Aids in Mass Production of Material Design

Screenshot of the Nature paper homepage.
On July 3, it was reported that metamaterials with thermal radiation performance can “package” excess heat and transfer it to the outside, helping objects to cool automatically. However, traditional design methods for such artificial materials are time-consuming and labor-intensive, often relying on long-term experience and repeated trial and error. Recently, a team from Shanghai Jiao Tong University achieved a major original breakthrough in the field of thermal radiation metamaterials by constructing an AI model for the reverse design of thermal radiation metamaterials, breaking through the existing “ceiling” of material design and enabling the mass production of candidate designs for thermal radiation metamaterials, achieving “selecting the best among the best”. The related results were published on July 2 in the journal “Nature”.

World’s First! Chinese Research Team Achieves Scalable Production of Regenerated Cellulose Fibers Using Ionic Liquid Method

Scene of the official production ceremony of the demonstration project.
On July 3, it was reported that the ionic liquid method for the industrial application of regenerated cellulose fiber technology developed by the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has achieved a breakthrough, with the first demonstration project for the annual production of 1,000 tons of the new generation of regenerated cellulose fibers officially launched in Henan. This is the world’s first scalable production of regenerated cellulose fibers using the ionic liquid method, which truly breaks through the bottleneck of spinning process reform and environmental protection issues, achieving zero emissions of “three wastes” (wastewater, waste gas, solid waste).
