A few days ago, BYD launched two new cars, and I estimate these two vehicles will be a hit; they are the Sea Lion 06EV & Sea Lion 06DM-i.

[ ·1· Striking Double Eyelids ]

In terms of appearance, both cars feature a classic ocean net design, with a relatively rounded shape complemented by some detailed lines that add a touch of dynamism. The design change is the split upper and lower sections, resembling double eyelids. How can we distinguish between the DM-i model and the pure electric model? The DM-i model has a grille, while the pure electric version features an active intake grille, which is usually in a closed state.

The new car measures approximately 4810mm in length, with a wheelbase of 2820mm, making it a mid-size SUV. I particularly like the ocean net design’s waistline; it lacks sharp lines, giving it a look reminiscent of sunlight reflecting off the ocean surface, creating a beautiful water-like effect. The pure electric model features semi-hidden door handles, low-drag wheels, and an active intake grille, achieving a drag coefficient of about 0.28Cd.

[ ·2· Continuing the Ocean Net Design ]

The interior still follows the classic ocean net design, with a very layered center console that gives a wave-like feel, including the air vents and door panels designed like water droplets. A black decorative panel runs continuously across the center console, with the instrument panel embedded within. The 15.6-inch central control screen appears to be mounted, powered by a 6nm chip and running the DLink100 system.

The new car’s seat padding is very thick and has excellent rebound. The second-row seat cushions are quite long, providing perfect support for the entire thigh. I am 178cm tall, and there is still more than two fist distances between my legs and the back of the front seat. Additionally, the overhead features a very large panoramic sunroof, making the interior feel bright.

[ ·3· Fully Equipped with Double C ]

The DM-i model uses BYD’s fifth-generation DM-i technology, featuring a 1.5L engine paired with a 160kW motor, achieving a range of over 1,600km on a full tank and full charge, thanks to the low fuel consumption of the fifth-generation DM-i technology. The pure electric model is based on the e-platform 3.0 Evo, which includes a 12-in-1 motor that is not only highly integrated but also compact and responsive. As a result, it has a relatively large front trunk, approximately 142L in capacity.

Additionally, both vehicles are equipped with the Yun Nian C chassis, while the pure electric model features a double ball joint MacPherson front suspension and a rear five-link suspension structure. Furthermore, they are all equipped with the Tian Shen Zhi Yan C, which supports high-speed assisted driving. Considering all these factors, could this be another hit model?
