Recently, Sony officially released a video showcasing the new generation of its flagship image sensor, the IMX686. Let’s watch the video together to learn more.
In the video, we can see many sample images released by the official source. As an upgraded version of the IMX586 sensor, its performance is highly anticipated. In terms of specifications, it is rumored that the IMX686 features 60 million pixels, with a four-in-one output of 15 million pixels, a unit pixel size of 0.8μm, and a sensor size of 1/1.7 inches.
Currently, there are claims that the Honor V30 will not be the first to feature this sensor; instead, it will debut on the Huawei nova 6. We may find out how well it performs in real-world photography when it is widely released next year.
However, this year, Samsung has also made significant strides in imaging systems, having launched the 64 million pixel Samsung GW1, which has already been adopted in many models. The Xiaomi CC9 Pro, boasting “100 million pixels,” is equipped with a CMOS developed in collaboration with Samsung and Xiaomi, achieving the top score on DxO. It remains to be seen whether the shipment volume of the Sony IMX686 will be affected.
Recently, there has also been a lot of news regarding the Sony PS5. Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, revealed in an interview with GameIndustry that developers and publishers will find the system easier to create games for.
Jim Ryan stated, “What makes me particularly optimistic is that the feedback we are getting from developers and publishers is that they can easily run code on the PlayStation 5, and the convenience exceeds their experiences on any other PlayStation platform.”
Of course, what everyone is most concerned about is the price of the PS5 console. Although there is still a year until its release, Sony is currently considering the final pricing of the PS5. Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki has clearly stated that the success of the PS5 will depend on its price, and Sony is carefully analyzing pricing, market profit margins, and platform penetration rates, while also paying close attention to investor opinions.
