“Elderly care” is not only a concern for many families but also a major national issue related to economic and social development. General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that “meeting the diverse needs of a large elderly population and properly addressing the social problems brought about by an aging population is crucial to national development and the well-being of the people, requiring significant effort from us.” With the acceleration of population aging, the demand for elderly care is becoming increasingly diverse. The embedded elderly care service model overcomes the shortcomings of insufficient socialization in family care and addresses the issues arising from excessive socialization in institutional care. It is a form of elderly care that aligns with China’s national conditions. Accelerating the realization of elderly care and dependence requires us to focus on the new problems brought about by population aging, continuously innovate and improve care models, and provide more professional and precise elderly care services to safeguard the happiness of the elderly.
Enhance publicity efforts to improve social recognition of embedded elderly care services.Embedded elderly care is a new model of elderly care based on a new concept in the new era, transitioning from traditional “home care” to “institutional care”. It has advantages such as small scale, diversified functions, professional services, and rich resources. Therefore, we need to utilize various channels and methods to increase publicity efforts, allowing more elderly individuals and families to understand and accept this care model. Through television, radio, newspapers, and social media platforms, we can widely disseminate the concept and service content of embedded elderly care; organize promotional activities in community centers, elderly activity rooms, parks, and other places frequented by the elderly, involving family members to jointly guide the elderly in changing their mindset; design personalized promotional activities based on the characteristics of elderly individuals from different regions and cultural backgrounds, helping them shift traditional views and concepts of elderly care to better adapt to the new normal of elderly care. Localities should strengthen the construction of elderly care service teams and actively promote the service projects of the embedded elderly care model to help elderly individuals access suitable care services. Meanwhile, emotional support should be provided to special elderly groups, respecting their personal choices, enabling them to psychologically accept the community embedded elderly care concept, and fostering a positive community care atmosphere.
Provide more professional elderly care services to compensate for the shortcomings of home care. The breadth, depth, and precision of embedded elderly care services are essential supplements to home care, resolving the inadequacies and inconveniences of home care while alleviating the pressure on children to provide care. Embedded elderly care service institutions are often distributed across various community stations, presenting a certain degree of “dispersed” layout. Therefore, it is important to allocate appropriate service personnel based on the actual situation of each station. For instance, if a community embedded elderly care station provides day care services, it should be equipped with volunteers, social workers, and management staff; if the station has a permanent elderly population, it must have doctors, nurses, and volunteer caregivers. For the specialized workforce of doctors, a community multi-station “shared doctor” employment model can be adopted, effectively saving operational costs related to the embedded elderly care model. Compared to traditional community health service stations that care for the elderly, the embedded elderly care model emphasizes providing standardized, professional, and considerate elderly care services. Communities should actively cultivate skilled professionals who meet the needs of embedded elderly care and provide specialized training and assessments, enhancing the training intensity for professional nursing staff while continuously increasing the frequency of vocational skill training, establishing a standardized system for irregular training and inspections to fundamentally improve the professionalism of community embedded elderly care services. Moreover, regarding the various medical resources needed for embedded elderly care, relevant service institutions can form a “seamless connection” with major medical institutions, ensuring high-quality medical resources benefit more elderly individuals, better safeguarding their physical and mental health, and enhancing their quality of life in old age.
Scientifically utilize smart platforms to achieve precise matching of supply and demand.Scientifically utilizing smart platforms can make elderly care services more efficient and high-quality, greatly enhancing the living experience of the elderly. Communities should actively create information management systems to collect, store, and analyze the health data, service needs, and feedback from the elderly, rationally integrating services such as temporary companionship, health care, meal assistance, housekeeping, and home care to ensure the information service database of embedded elderly care is continuously updated and upgraded. Fully utilizing big data analysis, we can provide “menu-style” customized services based on the health data and personal preferences of the elderly. For example, providing remote medical services through video calls and online consultations allows the elderly to enjoy professional medical advice and health management from home; offering online educational resources and training courses helps the elderly learn to use smart devices and internet services, improving their self-care abilities. Additionally, information protection should be strengthened, and education on information security should be provided to the elderly and their family members, teaching them how to identify online scams, protect personal privacy, and safely use smart devices, effectively enhancing the elderly’s sense of gain, happiness, and security.
