Partners in Digital Intelligence | Huawei's Deng Huibin: Cultivating the Smart Campus with IoT

This is the 12th issue of Partners in Digital Intelligence

“Partners in Digital Intelligence” is a dialogue column between Huawei’s OpenLab for government and enterprise in China and its solution partners. It focuses on the digital transformation practices in various industries, engaging with pioneers in the field to capture extraordinary stories of those venturing into the digital universe. In this issue, we visited Deng Huibin, Chairman of Wuxi Xinsilian Information Technology Co., Ltd., who has deepened his focus on the smart campus as a “golden battlefield” in the IoT sector, transitioning campuses from “passive connectivity” to “active decision-making”.

Pragmatically Cutting Through the Fog,

Focusing on the Campus “Golden Battlefield”

Deng Huibin’s career began in industrial automation, laying a technical foundation in an era before the IoT had emerged. His six years of experience in information security have forged a profound insight into the digital world. When Wuxi raised the banner of the IoT industry, Deng pivoted, seizing the opportunity of a “green campus” to enter the field. He pointed out that the openness and intensive management needs of universities for new technologies represent the “golden battlefield” for the IoT’s implementation.

As the industry evolves, the IoT has transitioned from a conceptual craze to a period of rational development, now entering a mature phase characterized by deep integration with technologies such as AI and gradual large-scale application in various sectors. Deng Huibin has consistently remained at the forefront of the industry, leading multiple campus IoT projects. Continuous learning is the core driving force behind his professional passion. He believes that in the rapidly evolving ICT field, only by constantly updating one’s cognitive framework through reading and reflection, and transforming others’ experiences and practical knowledge into personal growth nutrients, can one avoid career burnout and lose direction in the technological storm.

“Seeking truth from facts” is Deng Huibin’s axe for cutting through the fog. He pointed out that the mission of the IoT is to build a bridge between the real and digital worlds, which requires practitioners to root themselves in actual scenarios, exploring technological paths from customer needs, and returning technology to its business essence. This pragmatic philosophy is embedded in Deng Huibin’s professional DNA, throughout Xinsilian’s product design and solution implementation cycle, continuously creating customer value in the deep waters of digital intelligence.

From Passive Connectivity to Active Decision-Making,

Building New Infrastructure for Smart Campuses

Xinsilian has been deeply engaged in the smart campus field for nearly eight years, using the IoT as a foundation to promote the transition of campuses from “passive connectivity” to “active decision-making”. Deng Huibin stated that we are not just connectors, but also reshapers of campus intelligence.

IoT Foundation:Xinsilian has independently developed a Cyber-Physical System (CPS) and toolchain, upgrading traditional network infrastructure into intelligent sensing and edge computing nodes, achieving seamless access and data integration of devices across the campus.

Platform-Driven:Breaking through the limitations of traditional IoT platforms, Xinsilian has built a powerful IoT platform that enables campuses to possess sensing, understanding, and proactive service capabilities, fundamentally transforming from “humans adapting to systems” to “environments serving humans”.

Campus Infrastructure: Xinsilian has promoted smart campus IoT applications in numerous universities, actively deploying integrated IoT networks to lay a solid foundation for campus-wide intelligence, making the IoT the new infrastructure of campuses.

Deng Huibin introduced that Xinsilian is continuously integrating cutting-edge technologies to provide end-to-end integrated IoT solutions for the next generation of campus networks, empowering educational spaces to enter a new era of autonomous perception and proactive service.

Collaborative Innovation,

Forging Campus Intelligence

Xinsilian’s partnership with Huawei began with the Wuxi IoT project, where Xinsilian had already been deeply engaged in the digital campus field for six years, possessing rich engineering practices in the IoT and profound industry understanding. A project at a university in Xi’an marked a milestone in their collaboration, where they spent a year and a half overcoming the challenges of integrating IoT networks with campus infrastructure, achieving groundbreaking designs in multi-network integration, and establishing a technical paradigm of hardware-software separation in the industry, creating a benchmark for campus IoT.

Deng Huibin stated that Huawei solidifies the digital foundation with core technologies, while Xinsilian focuses on innovation at the application layer. They will continue to explore the integration of AI and IoT innovation, promoting the evolution of physical campuses into intelligent entities with digital brains, intent recognition, and closed-loop processes, helping campuses build a more efficient, reliable, and resilient service system.

With Product Vitality,

Building a Lasting Enterprise

In Deng Huibin’s view, the foundation for a company’s sustained development lies in creating products with vitality; the fundamental mission of a company is to create valuable products for society. Achieving true sustainable development requires companies to find their positioning and focus on meticulous work. Xinsilian anchors itself in the IoT, not as a wave rider on trends, but as a builder refining products and solutions, transforming customer demands for digitalization and intelligence into its indispensable value.

The digital transformation and upgrading of industries is an inevitable trend, and the IoT, as a mature industry, has vast potential in integrated intelligent services. For companies, only by actively embracing change can they seize new opportunities; for individuals, it is essential to engage in more creative work, shaping demands into actionable products with innovative thinking, and refining technological achievements into the puzzle pieces needed for the times.

Conclusion

In today’s world of accelerated technology and a return to human-centric values, Deng Huibin remains committed to the development philosophy of the smart campus ecosystem. From building a unified connected “green campus” foundation to creating intelligent entities that serve teachers and students; from deeply integrating digital intelligence into laboratories and constructing virtual-physical fusion cockpits, to creating a practical “digital brain” for colleges, he continuously empowers new engineering disciplines with AIoT, building a new ecosystem for smart education. In the future, Xinsilian will partner with Huawei to transfer successful practices from universities to more industries, transforming technology into perceptible experiences and measurable value increments for customers, co-creating new development landscapes.

By 2025, Huawei will partner with its allies to practice customer-centric value creation, jointly building a customer-centered “Partners + Huawei” system, crossing the digital intelligence divide with customers, and achieving win-win outcomes in the AI era!
