Yesterday we introduced Dell’s new generation of the G16, which features a trendy 16:10 screen, a 2.5K 240Hz gaming display, and comes standard with a Cherry keyboard, i9-13900HX processor, and RTX 4060 dedicated graphics card. The 195W power consumption is very tempting, but the price of 11,999 yuan is relatively high, facing challenges from competitors like the ROG Strix G7. If your budget is under 10,000 yuan and you are not interested in the 16:10 aspect ratio, you might want to check out the G15, which has a launch price of 8,799 yuan.
The 2023 G15 model is 5530, which adopts the same “mechanical futurism” design style as the G16, offering quantum black, ice storm white, and thunder purple color options. Personally, I think the ice storm white and thunder purple are very cool, combined with the rugged geometric cut body, making it highly recognizable, truly deserving of the nickname “Little Alien”.
The main difference between the G15 and G16 lies in the screen size and dimensions. The G15 uses a traditional 16:9 panel, unfortunately with only a 1080P resolution, 100% sRGB high color gamut, 165Hz refresh rate, and 300nits brightness. For a high-end gaming laptop that can play almost all 2K games, this screen specification is clearly lacking.
The differences between the G15 and G16 also extend to the keyboard design on the C side. The G15 is equipped with a numeric keypad, while the G16 does not. For users who frequently deal with numbers or players accustomed to using single-player game modifiers, the G15’s keyboard design may be more to your liking.
This product is powered by the 13th generation Core i7-13700HX processor, featuring 8 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores, totaling 16 cores and 24 threads. We can consider it a replacement for the previous generation i9-12900HX, with strong multi-core performance. Combined with the fully powered 140W RTX 4060 dedicated graphics card and a total system power release of 195W, gaming performance is undoubtedly impressive.
Both the G15 and G16 incorporate Alienware’s unique cooling technology, featuring element 31 and a VC heat spreader, with a built-in dual-fan four-zone cooling module to allow more space for heat dissipation, effectively lowering core temperatures.
Additionally, the new product adds a second M.2 hard drive slot, allowing for the installation of two SSDs, addressing the biggest flaw of its predecessor.
The number and layout of ports on this product are the same as the G16, including three USB-A 3.2 Gen1, one USB-C, HDMI2.1, RJ45, audio, and power jacks. It would be great if it could add an SD card reader.
Overall, the 2023 G15 features a more recognizable appearance and color design. With the upgraded 13th generation Core i7-13700HX processor and RTX 4060 dedicated graphics card combination, plus a total system power release of 195W, the overall performance has significantly improved, and the launch price of 8,799 yuan is relatively affordable for this configuration. However, the screen specifications of this product are average. If it were paired with an RTX 4050 and a 1080P screen, it would be more understandable to lower the entry price, but pairing the 4060 with a 1080P screen feels a bit like “Lu Bu riding a donkey”. The G15 is expected to offer more configuration options in the future, so keep an eye out for any high-cost-performance versions with a 2.5K screen.
