Event Background:
In the global wave of technological focus on robot innovation, ROBOCON, which started in 2002, has become a top university student robot competition in China and is now included in the evaluation system for university discipline competitions. In the 2025 season, over 80 university teams participated in the fierce competition of the flying slam dunk event.
Introduction
The 24th National Robot Competition ROBOCON (Shenzhen Division) was held from August 9 to August 12, 2025, at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen Campus. The competition featured multiple events including flying slam dunk, bionic foot, and volleyball challenge. The Deer Man A Robot Team, which has participated for several consecutive years, has won multiple national awards. In this competition, the team focused on the “flying slam dunk” event, which includes a main competition “competitive match” and two sub-events “ball handling” and “shooting”. In the main competition “competitive match”, the Deer Man A Robot Team won the National First Prize, and both skill events “ball handling” and “shooting” also received National Second Prizes!

Departure: Crossing Mountains and Seas to the Competition
On July 30, Teacher Liang Weishan led 10 team members to set off first, heading to the Shenzhen division to prepare for the 2025 ROBOCON competition.

Upon arriving at the preparation venue, the team members quickly switched to competition mode. Initially, everything went smoothly, and everyone was nervously preparing for the competition. Senior students working in Shenzhen came to provide careful guidance to the current team members. However, challenges arose unexpectedly—the mechanical structure that had been perfectly debugged at the base encountered “adaptation issues”; the shooting structure malfunctioned, and some parts, such as the gear structure, were damaged. Nevertheless, we remained confident and solved one problem at a time.

On August 5, Teacher Tang Cheng led the second batch of 6 team members carrying essential supplies to the Shenzhen preparation venue. The addition of new members injected a boost of energy into the team and increased everyone’s expectations for victory. After the two teams merged, everyone worked together tirelessly in the preparation venue, tackling the issues that arose one by one.

Intense Battle: Breaking Through from Top 16 to Top 8
On August 9, the competition officially kicked off. The grand opening ceremony ignited the passion of the venue and further motivated the Deer Man A team members. At the start of the competition, there was a minor hiccup in the robot’s mechanical operation, but the team members remained calm and gradually identified the optimal solution. After four rounds of intense competition, the team stood out among many universities and successfully advanced to the Top 16. This achievement boosted the team’s confidence, and upon returning to the preparation venue, they were even more determined to sprint towards the next stage of the competition.

Intense Battle: Fighting Hard and Achieving Great Results
August 11 became a highlight moment for the team. In the group competition, the Deer Man A Robot Team showcased their strong capabilities, achieving a perfect record of three wins. They first defeated Shenzhen University with a score of 13 to 6, then eliminated Dongguan University of Technology with a three-point advantage of 9 to 6, and finally won against Southwest Jiaotong University with a score of 7 to 6, successfully advancing to the Top 8 as the group leader, marking a significant breakthrough for the team in this competition.
As the competition progressed, the award list for each event was officially announced, and the Deer Man A Robot Team lived up to expectations: in the main event “competitive match”, they won the National First Prize due to their solid technical foundation and stable performance; in the two skill events “ball handling” and “shooting”, they also demonstrated strong capabilities, both receiving National Second Prizes.
Regret: Glory and Regret in the Top 8 Battle
On August 12, in the match to advance from the Top 8 to the Top 4, the Deer Man A team faced a strong opponent, Sichuan University. At the start of the match, the operator performed excellently, scoring a three-pointer first, igniting the atmosphere in the venue. However, Sichuan University, as an established strong team, showcased deeper technical accumulation, and ultimately, the Deer Man A team lost narrowly by a score of 15 to 18, stopping at the Top 8. Although there was regret, the team’s struggle and persistence on the field had already shone with our own glory.

Journey Continues: Unchanged Original Intention, Bright Future Ahead

Although we did not advance further, looking back at the entire preparation and competition journey, the team members gained far more than just results—there were the pains of debugging failures, the exhaustion of sleepless nights, and the excitement of solving problems and the achievements during the advancement moments.

The story of the Deer Man A Robot Team is not over yet; in the future, they will work harder and more diligently to strive for better results.
Finally, we would like to thank all the teachers and leaders of Liuzhou Institute of Technology who have silently contributed to the team, as well as sponsors Xinyingda and Maita Intelligent, and the support from other schools.
