In the era of the Internet of Things, smart smoke detectors have advantages over traditional smoke alarms, particularly in their connectivity capabilities. First, let’s explain what NB-IoT technology is.
NB-IoT stands for Narrow Band Internet of Things, which translates to “narrowband IoT”, an important branch of the Internet of Everything. So, among many IoT products, why did smart smoke detectors ultimately ignite NB-IoT and promote further development of the IoT?
First, from a market perspective, the demand for smart smoke detectors in China is exceptionally large. During the urbanization process, there are many small micro-places such as shared rentals, family workshops, and residences of vulnerable groups, which are frequent fire zones. Frequent fires have also attracted significant social attention, creating a huge sales prospect for smart smoke detectors.
Second, from a product cost perspective, compared to other hardware, smart smoke detectors, being a “necessity” product, are relatively low in price, enabling large-scale adoption.
At this point, what is the difference between smart smoke detectors and traditional smoke alarms?
The key lies in the word “smart.”
Indeed, if we only look at the appearance, it is easy to confuse smart smoke detectors with traditional smoke alarms.
However, upon deeper inspection, you will find that smart smoke detectors contain a chip that traditional smoke alarms do not have. This chip is the NB-IoT wireless communication module we mentioned earlier.
The advantages of this chip include low power consumption, accurate sensing, strong signal penetration, long transmission distance, and wide coverage. These advantages also help smart smoke detectors avoid the drawbacks of false alarms and missed alarms that traditional smoke detectors face.
According to statistics, when a fire occurs in a residence equipped with a smoke alarm, the escape chances for residents are 50% higher than those in residences without one, increasing the probability of escape and allowing the fire to be extinguished in its initial stage.
