On December 10, 2019, leading semiconductor component distributor in the Asia-Pacific region – WPG Holdings announced
that its subsidiary PinJia has launched an automotive instrument and in-vehicle entertainment dual operating system solution based on NXP (NXP) iMX8QM.

With the continuous development of the automotive industry, new cars have an information panel that integrates maps, entertainment, and other functions (the so-called in-vehicle entertainment system). Currently, digital dashboards and in-vehicle entertainment systems are composed of two independent chip systems, one chip system is responsible for the digital dashboard, and the other chip system is responsible for the in-vehicle entertainment system. This architecture not only complicates the development system but also keeps costs high.
The automotive instrument and in-vehicle entertainment dual operating system solution based on NXP iMX8QM launched by WPG PinJia allows users to use a single iMX8QM chip paired with a set of “power system, storage device, and memory chip” to independently run the digital dashboard and in-vehicle entertainment dual systems, greatly reducing development costs. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that the i.MX8QM chip adopts NXP’s latest technology and has passed ISO26262 and ASIL-B certification in the automotive market, thus ensuring the safety level of this chip in the in-vehicle system. The i.MX8QM chip contains a Cortex-M4F core, which not only provides a flexible and fast boot mechanism but also provides display fault transfer functionality.
