The Huawei MateBook X is ultra-lightweight and fanless. I have always wanted to see how it dissipates heat. Without good heat dissipation, there can be no powerful performance release, so heat dissipation is quite important for an ultra-lightweight laptop. Meanwhile, the configured 512GB hard drive sometimes feels insufficient for me. What should I do if I want to change it? Should I find after-sales service or can I do it myself? I just want to take it apart and see if it’s convenient.
The key to disassembly is carefulness and patience. For example, the back of the MateBook X looks like it has three screws, but in fact, there are screws hidden under each foot pad, and some laptops even hide screws under labels. So before disassembling, it’s essential to understand this clearly.
The essential tools are a star screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver; the star screwdriver is mainly for the three screws in the middle of the back, while the rest are all Phillips screws.
After removing the screws, carefully use a thin prying tool to slowly enter from the edge gap, slide to pry open the edge clips, and then you can remove the back cover.
There is a large area of thermal adhesive, and regular fixed foam, with a metal center buckle for positioning and fixing, and the edge clips are also metal.
This large heat sink is quite special; it should be similar to the structure of a heat pipe, using a hollow design to evenly dissipate heat and transfer it through a heat-conducting shaft to the metal A-side of the laptop for heat dissipation. This means that the heat dissipation area is quite large, which contributes to making it ultra-light and thin.
The battery occupies a larger area, leaving much less space for the motherboard. It looks like they are really using mobile phone technology to make laptops.
The audio quality of the Huawei MateBook X is excellent, coming from four speakers on the left and right sides, and it also supports 3D keyboard sound, which is a unique design.
The pile of screws I disassembled can be arranged in their original positions, which is beneficial for ensuring the original screws are used.
I have labeled everything clearly in the image, so it shouldn’t need much explanation. The most important thing is to watch the video!
The Intel wireless card supports WIFI6 with a dual antenna design. You can see the thermal grease on the heat-conducting shaft.
If you want to replace the hard drive, be careful to remove the heat sink, then choose a hard drive of the same specification and size to wrap and install. In fact, replacing the hard drive is not as troublesome as imagined.

When reassembling, pay attention to the positioning holes of the foot pads, which is also a foolproof design, with different sizes of holes for easy positioning, using adhesive for fixing.
