This year, 50% of the world’s Bluetooth ICs are produced in China, and smartphones are the primary platform products supporting Bluetooth functionality, with about 50% of the smartphones sold each year developed by Chinese member companies.

Three Major Technological Innovations Continue, HDT and Other Audio Enhancement Technologies Expected in 2026

At the 2025 Bluetooth Asia Conference, Electronic Enthusiasts noted that chip companies like NXP, Nordic, and TaiLing Micro have already launched related products. Additionally, many Bluetooth chip companies, including FuriKun, are accelerating their layout of this technology, and more applications of Channel Sounding technology are expected to be seen after the second half of this year.The Bluetooth Technology Alliance has been exploring technologies to enhance audio experiences, and will soon introduce ultra-low latency HID, high-resolution lossless audio, and high throughput data transmission (HDT) enhancements. It is expected that in 2026, the Bluetooth Technology Alliance will launch HDT, which can enhance transmission speed and reliability, for example, increasing speed from 2 Mbps to 8 Mbps.Kolderup further explained that HDT can be used not only for new facilities but also for existing facilities, such as smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and in the industrial field for status monitoring or asset tracking, etc. With the HDT technology, the data transmission and download speeds will see significant improvements. In addition, the Bluetooth Technology Alliance also plans to expand the operating frequency band from the traditional 2.4GHz to 5-6GHz. “ Our member companies hope to expand into these new frequency bands, so that in terms of speed, capacity, latency, and accuracy, Bluetooth can ensure smooth operation for the next few decades by expanding into these new bands,” Kolderup stated.
